still trying to get my head around all this intell stuff, making the change from amd to intell. going with a wolfdale 8500, currently have pc with sli---- i know nothing about the intel x38/48 vs sli, what are advantages? Currently i have an evga8800gt x2 512
need help with a mobo (cap 275.00 us on new egg) hear evga, asus and gigabite are good (with my amd i have used asus).
also what type of ram should i go for??? ddr2 vs ddr3??? I don't mind spending a little extra to make it bit more future proof.

DDR3 RAM is pointless right now - no real advantage over DDR2.

SLI is just using the same two nVidia cards together - like ATI's Crossfire. I (believe) x38 and x48 are onboard video?

For intel mobo's, I'd go with a Gigabyte board - those are really popular.

go for a Gigabyte X38 off of newegg, that will not allow you to use crossfire but unless im mistaken you can still use video cards like the nvidia 9800GX2

what abou these?

was looking for something above ddr 800, with sli---- any suggertions would be great, these are a few i came up with, not sure about anything other than evga, gigabite, asus====== anybody got something else to recommend.

EVGA 123-YW-E175-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i FTW SLI ATX : from newegg.com

Or

EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard : from newegg.com

or

ASUS Striker II Formula LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard : newegg.com

I personally will go for 780i set up.
By the way, Asus is really expensive, you may be better off to XFX
