hi CF!

just popped on to ask a quick Q about html, its fairly complicated otherwise i wuda gone browsing the internet instead of hassling yee guys for the helpfull info i wud gratefully apreciate!

anyways, iv been recently browsing som certain bands websites like chimaira and machine heads (heavy metal bands just incase ya dont know...) myspace page and it appears that some of them have large .jpg format images as most of there page...its fascinating cos i right click on the image and view it, and it opens in a new tab with the exact image i was looking at, except the links dont work.

now obviously the text is just part of the jpg image, so how on earth does the text suddenly become linkable and clickable whilst browsing the myspace page?

is there some sort of html code that you can get that you specify which area of the page links to where??:(

I can help you if you clear some things up for me

When you click an image it just opens up as the same image as you where viewing but on a different browser window or tab?

What do you mean how does text become linkable?

hey man,

go onto www.myspace.com/chimaira and you see the image with the big half human half fly/mosquito? well that's the top of the myspace profile as we know it,

now, little did we know it was just a jpg file (view it by right clicking the deformed human/mosquito and click 'view image'), and when we view it as a raw jpg file (after you click 'view image') its just.....an image, not clickable or nothing. (after opening as a jpg file in a different or current tab).

my question is, how did they get the jpg image working as part of the myspace page/profile? because as a jpg file, you can click on different parts of it.?

linkable: i mean look on that jpg image with the mosquito guy, at the right of it you see text saying stuff like 'add as freind' message' etc etc.. but its part of an image....not html coding!

After viewing the html and seeing how it works this is how it was done

They used the tag
Code:
<img scr="www.url.com">

after the displayed the image on the page they used css code to place the links on top of the image like so

Code:
<a href="http://www.url.com"
style="position:absolute; top:120px; left:730px;">

So basically it is, place an image on the page and then use css to place the link right on top of the text that is displayed on the image.

Did i explain that well enough?

Best Regards,
Francisco

ah man! thats excellent! thats exactly what i ment by the text becoming linkable,

is this css code something i may have to learn or will it be simple stuff, copy and pasting kinda thing? if so where wud i find the codes to do that image linking myself?
