new mobo

goodoneian

hey, i'm looking to build a new computer but i'm having issues on deciding which motherboard to use. criteria for it would be able to run a quad core processor, ddr2 ram preferably, and sli capable. i also don't want to spend over 300 dollars on it. any suggestions?

why 780i? it sounds to me like he wants a mb that doesnt have all of the gadgets and gizmos... i would reccommend the 650i chipset mobos... all the specs goodoneian listed are capable on the 6xx series. The only perks to the 7xx series are DDR3 capability and tri sli. I think he wants to keep all of his DDR2 ram, which would make the series kinda pointless and expensive

well actually i don't have any DDR2 ram, but that is what i would like to upgrade to. i also want something that i know wont give me TOO much issues. i've read mixed reviews about the 780 serious which is why i posted this thread.

yeah, that'd be a really nice buy (as iff the 633 reviews don't tell you taht already)... I've got the 650 chipset and am happy with it, but wish i had something higher. I don't like to "compromise"... I like the best of the best of the best... but my old mobo went out and was in a financial crunch (and it was right before the 7xx series)... but yet...i would go for that

well to me it seems like some of the 700 series boards are unstable, and i don't really want to deal with that. the 680 seems like a good board and basically has the most features so i'll probably go with that
