The title says it all, everything is running slow, startup is taking forever, and it takes a long time to open any application. Here's a HJT log:

It looks as though you are running AVG and Avast!! Get rid of one of them. I recommend you stay with AVG or get rid of both and get Nod32. Avast seems to be hog lately for me so I switched to nod32 and no problems anymore.

For mods and other: Look at these, are they legit?

Oops, after some searching I found that the 3 things I posted I found that they are part of Realtek. Therefor they are nothing to worry about. Do NOT fix anything yet except un-installing one of the antivirus's.
 
I'm running AVG anti-spyware not antivrus. And I've actually heard I should go with nod32, I might look into that.

Edit: now that I think about it, a looooong time ago I did use AVG antivirus, and looking through the HJT log it's still on there. Thanks for noticing that.
 
No prob I def recommend nod32 although you have to pay for it but, its worth it. Make sure AVG is completely un-installed. Once you have AVG gone and w/e antivirus you want installed, then post a new hijackthis log for us.
 
Not much going on...a few unneeded files. We'll fix them but I think it's not smart to have Super Anti Spyware, Spyware Guard, AVG Antispyware, adaware and a-squared running at the same time. Please keep Ad-aware and AVG Antispyware.

Now open your HIjackThis again and click Do a system scan only and check these entries:

Reboot your computer.
AFter you've uninstalled/removed all those programs and fixed these entries, is your system doing any better?
 
Okay, which antivirus would you recommend? I don't have AVG it was just leftover from when I did I have avast!
Also, with the spyware programs, the only ones that are running are Super Anti Spyware (which doesn't have resident protection) spyware guard for the resident protection, and A-squared because It's doing a scan right now. Adaware isn't open, and I can find no trace of it at all in task manager. I'll post a HJT log as soon as I can reboot.

You are still running Ad aware, Super antipyware, and Spyware Guard!! What did you do? Also you are running Zonealarm. You have too many things. That many things will cause more harm then help. I recommend you get rid of avast and get something else. Look at all those processes that avast uses. Nod32 uses 2 processes I believe and avast uses 4-6.
 
I was under the impression that, correct me if I'm wrong, running is the word we should be looking at. If I only have one antivirus program RUNNING at one time I'll be fine. OR if I only have one antispyware program RUNNING at one time I'll be fine. Spyware Guard only blocks things like homepage attempt changes. It's a hijack attempt protection program. Super antispyware has ZERO resident protection, which means it only runs so you can launch it quickly. Okay, it does have resident...but I disabled it. Ad aware is not running at all, there are no traces of it anywhere in task manager, or any other program I can find that will tell me what procceses are running, it also has no real time protection because I have the free version.
I hope that all made sense. From what I've heard, you can have as many antispyware programs as you want. In the past a mod has even recommended that I use more than one, because they catch different things.

Yes, what you don't want is two permanent scanners. Use only one A-V, but we corrected that earlier.

You can have as many Anti-spyware as you want as long as it's not a permanent scan, but it is pointless to have more than three. If you're not downloading illegally, you can use on A-V and one Anti-spyware, it's enough. I personnally use Norton 2008 (A-V) and Ad-Aware (A-S). You might have heard that Norton sucks, that's because it takes a lot of ressources and you have to pay for it. As far as ressources are concerned, it runs fine on my computer, running 1.4GB RAM, and I chose security over performance... :)

Now, for your problem, I'd like you to do two things:

CCleaner

Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer.
  • Double click on the ccsetup.exe file to start the installation of the program.
  • Select your language and click OK, then next.
  • Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
  • Click next to use the default install location.
  • Under Install Options, choose all the default settings except I would recommend that you unclick/untick install the Yahoo! Toolbar, unless you want it. You can also Uncheck the 'Automatically check for updates' box.
  • Click Install then finish to complete installation.
  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • On the "Windows" tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
  • If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
  • Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced."
    deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
  • Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items. Click on Issues and make sure Registry Integrity is UNchecked!
  • Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
  • After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.

This program will remove useless files.

Combofix:
Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

This is to look deeper, to make sure you are totally clean of viruses.

Ok Combofix got rid of some files, I didn't find anything malicious on your computer (had a quick look). How is your system running now?

Also I saw that you have limewire installed... You do what you want but let me give you this information:

A list of clean and infected P2P programs can be found at Spyware Info.

The risks of using a P2P program are stated in this Sourceforge website and Information Week article.

Please also read Malware Removal's Guide on P2P Programs.
 
Limewire is not only risky but illegal. Music and files shared on there are mostly infected. If you decide to keep it i suggest you scan everything that you download!!

You are right on this, I totally agree with you on this, and most of the systems I cleaned had Limewire installed...

I will be straight up with you on this. I use to have limewire installed on my old pc, before I knew much about pc's. And that pc was totally infected so bad. I couldnt even open task manager or regedit! It was really bad. That was when I was younger. I know way more now and dont ever plan on using that app anymore. I also now know you to get rid of infections.
 
whoa, I didn't even know I still had limewire installed, yeah, like I said this is NOT my computer it's the family computer, and they usually do what they want and then cry to me for help. I'm just going to uninstall limewire and let them do what they want. Honestly, I usually know what I'm doing with computers, and I can generally clean infections, but there are times, you know?
