Help me figure out a good laptop to buy :-)

I'm looking to have a nice laptop that pwns. I'm going to use it mostly for doing work like on Photoshop, After Effects, Flash & Dreamweaver type stuff. Some of the programs need a lot of power to run without lag. I hate slow computers and for once I'd love to have one that is very fast and won't lag when I work. I don't care how big it is as I will only be using it on my couch and won't be transporting it anywhere. I'm from America. Brand doesn't matter much to me. Looks not so much. I'd love a big screen to encompass as much of my projects as I can. I'd love a lot of hard drive space to store my videos. I'd like a pretty decent quality graphics card...I want a strong computer most of all...loading, processing won't lag, become unresponsive due to overload of things its processing. Thanks in advance!

Price range is max of 1,500-1,600!

$,£,Euros?

Also what OS is your programs in? If its universal I recommend the MacBook Pro 15,17'' 2.5GHz or if you use windows Get a HP Dragon

Well the location is listed as California, and the poster even says he's from America. What do you think his currency would be Kill Bill? Sheesh.

@op. $1500 will not buy a $2000+ macbook pro. And the Hp Dragon is over $3200 USD. Random posts by Kill Bill again.

Now to my suggestion. For a laptop to run things like photoshop well, and not lag, it will need a good graphics card and processor. Sager makes good laptops that fit the description.

The Sager Np2092 has a fast 2.5ghz penryn processor, 4 gigs of ram standard, a 320 gig hard drive (same price as 200gb), and the nvidia 8600m gt graphics card. All great for a modern laptop. Best of all? $1299 for that config. You do however need to select the bigger screen resolution, because the base is out of stock. That is a $65 upgrade.

How did you know hes using windows?

That sager has more ram, a better graphics card and processor, and a bigger hard drive than a mac for the price. On a mostly windows user forum, mac users usually ask for a mac related suggestion. "Brand doesn't matter much to me." The op said that. For a better graphics card, processor, hard drive, and ram, why would I not suggest a pc?

Thanks you two. Yeah, I'm from America & also I'm not very good with Macs. I had one before and I sucked with it ^^;

I don't know much about computers, Travis, but that one looks pretty nice. Price is pretty cool too. I thought 2.5 ghz processors were slow or average? I have this computer I bought from 2002 (PC) and it has a Pentium 4 processor that says 2.66 Ghz. I'm not sure what makes computers fast or slow ... is that the processor? This computer is mad slow. I'm not sure if it's because it only has 512 MB of Ram but it takes like 10 minutes to start up and will freeze from the shock of having a lot of things processing at once and create the "Not Responding" dialogue that goes above the Title bar of whatever app I'm running. I'm talking crapola. Is having a 2.5 ghz processor gonna be worse?
Much appreciated again. That's a really cool website that lets you customize it. I'm gonna play around with that website a bit more after this post... I've got a bit more money in stock for something a bit better if you wanna give it a reroll :D

A 2.5ghz procesor on a laptop is very fast. It is dual core also. Trust me. That processor on the $1300 sager is better than my $2100 gaming laptop. A dual core processor is much better than pentium 4.

@Oddler, those sager notebooks look pretty good. I would use the extra money for software and bags/mouses and things like that.

edit: A 5400rpm 320gb hard drive is faster than a 160gb 7200rpm because the platters are closer. Even if it were a little slower, you get an extra 120 gigs. You would not even notice the difference in any normal activity. I would take 120 gigs over a few rpm any day.

And this laptop is in no way slow. It will run vista or xp (you can still config it with xp) extremely well. No "not responding"'s. It has a processor much greater than anything you can find at staples or best buy. It has a dedicated graphics card, you'll be able to play a lot of games. It has a huge hard drive. 200 and 320gigs are both huge. It even has 8 times the ram on your old computer.

I'm on the verge of buying it within the hour...I don't see any little speaker holes in it. Does it have a built in speaker that you know of, Travis?

I think I see tiny little speaker bumps in the front of the computer on the side...hopefully those are speakers...I bought a laptop like 5 years ago that had no internet speakers to play sounds...ANYWAYS. I may buy this at the end of the day if no one in this thread has any better ideas. I've got $1900 in excess cash for selling my Motorcycle and I'm ready to blow it on a piece hot laptop.

If anyone has any better suggestions I'll take a look at it. If not I"m getting that nice looking sager at the end of the day ;D

Thx again Travis. Nice pick on it.

Sorry I can't always respond until we get charter internet. Congratulations on thinking about my suggested laptop.

The asus laptop is very similar to the Sager laptop. You will be very happy with either. I don't know exactly which graphics card is better, the ATI or Nvidia, but i've always trusted Nvidia (like the Sager)

I have also seen great reviews on this Sager notebook.

When I googled the ATI 3650 graphics card, I saw versions of 512 megabytes. The card on the Asus notebook is twice as much megabytes, but that doesn't mean it's better. Some companies add more storage space to a graphics card, but that doesn't increase the performance most times. I would take the sager notebook because of the (forced but good) screen resolution, and hard drive space if you choose the 320gb hard drive (strongly recommended).

The Sager also has options for a TV tuner, so you can watch live TV on your laptop, within your budget. The advanced customization options on the Sager make it a winner for me.

EDIT: The Sager notebook also has a better battery (The sager has 9, the asus has 6)

You will be very happy with any notebook of this quality, it will last you for years before slowing down. I hope you really like whatever you get!

I looked up the graphics cards on notebookcheck.com a while back. The ATI card is faster. ~5000 rating to a ~7000 rating. Both should be plenty fast for your needs. The choice is yours.

The asus does come with 2 years parts and labor + 1 year accidental damage coverage. The screen isn't quite as high resolution though (it won't fit as much "stuff" on it). Both are great choices as afore mentioned. GL buying! ;)
