Everex notebook???

Hmm...that's a new OS for me too... The laptop would be fine for what you want it to do. It'll be much slower than comparable Intel/AMD based machines, but it should get really nice battery life (at least that's what those processors where made for :P)

Installing a new OS shouldn't be a problem. I'd check around a bit and see if the drivers are available first. The manufacturer may have Windows drives on their site.

If I were you, I'd check around a bit more before snatching that one. I know Office Depot (at least around here) had a Toshiba with a Pentium Duel Core and 2GB RAM for $350 after a rebate.

Please, do not get that. Newegg has horrible deals on a lot of laptops, go to Staples, Best Buy, or Circuit City and look for their deals.

I've posted this a few times, but I got a brand new Acer at Staples for $399 almost a year ago with the following:

14.1" Glossy
Celeron M 1.86GHz
1GB DDR2
120GB Hard Drive
Intel GMA x3100 256MB
802.11b/g, DVD/CD-RW Drive
Windows Vista Home Premium

go to compusa's website and check there. Thats not that good of a computer brand. If you can not get windows XP go with an laptop with Windows Vista on it.

Are the Asus EEE pcs any good?
They are alright, but don't expect to use it for anything other then internet and word processing.

Really, whats wrong with the Toshiba? It has excellent specs, only costs $450, and is better then anything you have posted at around the same price.

Like this one at newegg?

That'd be a good buy but I like this compaq better because it has a dual core processor:

Either would be better buys and that's just a really quick search, keep looking and you can even better.

Yes, those two are great notebooks for the price. My Acer is almost identical to the one you linked to there, except mine is a 14.1" , had a 1.86GHz Celeron M (vs 2.0), and has Vista Home Premium, the rest is the same.
