New Computer Build Help

Hey guys. I bought Age of Conan, and it's evident that I will be needing a new computer to play anything that comes out after this game, as I can barely play it with everything on low.

My budget is around $1,000.00 USD, give or take some change.

I'll be using it for gaming and some schoolwork and the like, maybe some AutoCad.

I definitely want a case/DVD drive/hardrive/fans to be quiet. One of my biggest qwerks is having a loud buzzing noise next to me when I play a game.

Could any of you give me some suggestions for a good build with these specs?

Thanks.

+1, But I will spend a bit on Antec P180 to make it quiet. Also down the GPU to a 8800GT 512MB, and thus get the $$ for OS

Thanks for the quick reply Dais. It all looks good, but I have a few questions.

With the dual core CPU, why did you chose dual core instead of quad core?

With the RAM, is that the highest speed ram that the mobo can take? And if I wanted to, could I add another set of that ram you listed and put that in dual channel, too?

With the graphics card, why did you chose Radeon? I thought GeForce was the way to go now? Also, what makes that specific model of card worth the money?

Also, with the case, how could I spend some of my money into making it quiet?

Thanks guys.

ok with the CPU the duel cores are better for gaming at the moment because games only use 2 cores realy so having a 2.4 quad only using 2 core will not be as good as a duel core at 3.0 using 2 cores the one at 3.0GHz will be faster. an that CPU i chose will OC to about 4.0GHz+.

the ram at lower CL 800MHz will be better than ram with higher CL 1200MHz

if you wanted a card as powerful as that card in a nvida you will have to spend a lot more.
there is nothing wrong with ATI cards i prefer them over nvida cards myself i have built PCs with both nvida an ATI cards an both very powerfull cards

well...i just put my first computer together, and i was very unimpressed with the two fans that came with my case, my 9800gx2 was running at about 80 cels i got two scythe 3k rpm fans and it droped it down to 67 cels (under load) but it was unbelievably loud at 3k rpms (133 cfm from a 120mm fan) so i knocked em down to 60% in bios, sounds fairly normal now, but im up to 74 under a load

my advice would be to get a case with a lot of fan spots open and that way you can use lower RPM fans and still get a lot of air flow going on, my case only had 3 spots so i was limited and had to use louder, higher rpm fans

just my 2 cents*

ok you could go all out an get a antec 900 but the case i put in should be quite cool i have the same case just in a full tower an with all stock coolers an 2 120mm fand my temps are great my CPU idel 26-28 load 42-44 my vid card idels at 35 an loads at 60 an my HDDs sit around 28 the highst i have seen them was 33

Sweet, thanks red.

Now does anyone have any suggestions on how to make my computer really quiet? :)

1.Get case like Antec P180/182
2.Get a quiet PSU. But I only know few, e.g. SilverStone Decathlon Series, Be quiet! PSU, PC Power & Cooling Silencer
3.Water cool the machine to reduce number of fans

there that costs u $1062, if u want aftermarket cpu cooler then $1100
:) i stole those specs from another threa that i replied to.

Does anyone else have any critiques/comments/suggestions? I'm leaning towards the first build, but I just want to know what some more people think of it.

I was looking at some motherboards with DDR3. Is DDR3 much better than DDR2, and will the motherboard listed in the 2nd post, along with the processor, handle it well?

DDR3 latencies are too high to see a good performance increase. Stick with DDR2-800.

1) 9.6GHz? Are you out of your mind? You don't just add up the speeds... Sheesh...
2) There are millions of LGA775 Gigabyte motherboards... Ranging from $40 to $250...
3) Without links, what the heck was that post for? Not even specifics...

Don't post what you aren't into.

How soon will applications/games start using a quad core's four cores? I'm torn between a dual and a quad core, but I'm not sure.

Any input?
