Windows XP VS. Vista

I know there are hundreds of threads on this already, but oh well. I prefer Vista because it has more "out of the box" compatibility, meaning you don't need to put drivers on a CD prior to reinstalling Vista, because it has almost all of the newer NIC's and wireless card drivers built in.

People who complain about it being a resource hog, obviously! Whenever newer version of software come out, they require more resources. Look at Windows 2000 to Windows XP, besides, if I spent all this money on a PC, I want to be able to take advantage of it, and not just when I'm gaming.

Like Omega said, it's way easier to just just plug a device in and assume something will work. Graphically it's gorgeous. I like the widgets and the theme, and the bundled stuff (mediaplayer, etc, not IE7 tho ;))... I like Xp myself because I had issues with Vista when I installed it, and after 2 installs the disc was unreadable, so, Microsoft kind of messed me up with that.
Side note : Anyone know where a torrent of Vista 64 bit is?? A full legal torrent, no hack key anything, i have a COA, just a bad disc.

I use XP but i want to get Vista b/c of Dx10...i feel thats a reason enough to upgrade at some point

I like vista more because it looks better and it gives me the game cover and some information about games installed on the system. Also, it consumes alot of resources, and thats why i want to upgrade (buy 2 more gb of ram and a new dual core processor)

Now that Vista SP1 is out, and if you have the higher end hardware and want to benefit off the few features if offers, I would say give Vista a try.

With Vista, you need at least 2GB ram for it to run smoothly. That's the only problem people will face. I have suffered NO problems with Vista what so ever since I've bought it. I don't know what all these bad reviews are about. Maybe I might suffer those problems they've suffered in the future, but for now Vista is 100% better. The graphics are just incredible. XP isn't as good.

I like Vista, mainly because it has a lot of things xp doesn't that I always thought XP should have. While it does consume a lot of resources, it is possible to have it running smoothly on 1gb of ram (for people who just use their computers for internet and e-mail and such). I had it on my 3 year old computer and it ran perfectly fine (P4 3.0GHZ 1.5GB ram). I love the new look, it's much easier on the eyes than XP.

While I don't think XP is bad by any means, I just really don't see a need for sticking with XP. The funny thing is is I've been thinking that since the Vista beta 2 came out. Sure it had some bugs, but I knew they'd be ironed out. And lo and behold, about a month or 2 after the final release I had absolutely no issues with it.

The problem with Vista if you only have 1GB ram and you're doing one thing, once you try to do something else the computer needs more than 1GB ram so it'll problem go really slow and end up crashing. My computer normally uses up from around 964MB to 1250MB of ram on Vista, that's without gaming. I haven't tried gaming out yet. So if you're going to get Vista you minimally need around 1.5GB-2GB memory of ram.

There is a whole lot of tripe being said about Vista on forums and critic sites all over the internet. It is perfectly fine for that laptop.

First of all, it is FULLY possible to run Vista with maximum visual settings (provided your graphics can manage it) and idle at less than 550mb of RAM. This might sound like an awful lot but for most applications (discount gaming etc) you won't notice a blind bit of difference in how they run. And that is on MAX settings.

On the lowest settings with the Vista GUI, I can imagine that it uses little more in the way of RAM than XP.

After the release of SP1, Vista has become much, much faster and much, much more stable and is perfectly feasible as an O/S for anyone.

But, at the end of the day, both systems get the job done very well.
It is now only a matter of personal choice, you should make your own mind up.
