8800GTX or SLI 8800GTS

if i have a 24" monitor, would a single 8800gtx 768mb or two 8800gts 640mb in SLI be best? what about a 22" or a 19" monitor?

SLi will perform better.

The only disadvantage is that you can't run more than 1 monitor if you run SLi.

that wont be a problem because a 24" is plenty

i ask this is because i know adding a 2nd card wont double the performance. it's that law of diminishing returns. so at lower resolutions (using smaller monitors), would it make such a big difference?

Actually, adding a second card would have a maximum of an 80% boost.

i would go with the single 8800gtx the difference wont be very noticeable, plus you'll have an open slot for another 8800gtx in the future

Yes, but in many cases, SLI doesn't yield a huge performance boost. One GTX should be just fine, and later on down the road, you have more room for upgrade.
