best free anti virus

hi i wanted to know what hte best free anti virus and anti spyware is

im talking about freeware not trial offers

AVG is another good free anti-virus. It also does spy-ware ad ad-ware.
 
AVG 8.0, Avast, AntiVir, are all ood antivirus progroms in the free cat. The best 'retail' one would be iether NOD32 by Eset, or Bitdefender.
 
Windows Defender is not an antivirus program. It only scans for spyware/adware.
Avast! is the best I've used.
 
Avira Antivir and AVG are probably the best out there. I'm using both, don't really know which one is better, though the free version of Avira AV seems to come with more features and whatnot than AVG... AVG free, while it's light and reliable, doesn't allow you to do a lot of customization.
 
windows defender is nice but it's not an antivirus and not the best antispyware software. It's good to use as a second antispyware and has some nice features.

I love bitdefender and like the Avast antivirus. I've personally used both, only switched from bitdefender because I got Kaspersky for like $5

Yeah windows defender is nice to have but doesn't have full protection of your computer, so have AVG. I have both and they work well.
