Hey there Im new and looking for some help. Im looking to get a new PC sometime in august.
So heres what i do on my PC: games, graphic design (photoshop), audio engineering, watch movies/shows, and all your other ordinary crap.
Right now I have a Dell 9150, pentium D 3ghz, 1gb ram, ati radeon x600... yeah it sucks hard and its outdated.
So basically Im looking to get a PC where i can do all my regular shit and play games, cause right now im missing out on everything. I wana be able to play games like Bioshock, Crysis, Age of Conan and stuff like that with awesome graphics, maximum settings, running smoothly, no lag or any problems. I also dont want to go over 2000 dollars.

Im not really an expert with pc's but I looked into 2 computerts: the dell XPS 630 and the Alienware Area 51. It would help me out a lot if someone could tell me which one is better or if anyone has a better suggestion than these. Ive heard that alienwares arent good but dont know if thats true. I also dont a pc thats guna get outdated like uber fast cause thats what happened with the one I have now so it ended up as a waste sort of.

This is the Dell XPS 630: (it seems to not load fully sometimes, just scroll down)

The Alienware Area 51:

So yeah I'd appreciate any help or advice really.

Firstly, don't listen to computeruler. He has a nasty habit of dropping into threads to say "that's not very good" or "that's bad", without any further elaboration.

Second, Dell owns Alienware, and is keeping both the XPS and Alienware lines active. In buying from the Alienware line you'll usually spend more for the same stuff and same service, so I'd start with the XPS.

yeah, i know the basics but not enough to build my own. Is it really a bad choice to get one of these?

In my opinion, yes.

Build your own system, you will have a better understanding of your pc, and you'll save an arseload of cash.

I agree that you could save a bunch if u built it yourself and people around here would definitively help build it.

you should make it and both of those brands arnt good

what do u expect its coming from a 13 yr old who has little knowledge of computers.. yea dell does own both and personally at the price of those u could build one of the same specs for much cheaper and save yourself some money.. its not that hard if you take your time and come here for guidance

Anyways, I'd read some guides at the top of the section. Very helpful. You'll never understand the magical box fully until you get to have hands on experience with it.

uhh dont know where you got that from Im not 13 im 18.

Everyone seems to be saying I should build it. I was wondering how much would I actually save building it myself? I live in Switzerland so im sure its not as easy to get parts as in the states. Also im pretty sure stuff here might be a little more expensive. I checked out orders for the same pc on the alienware american and swiss site and there was a difference of roughly 200$ for the same computer on the swiss site.

Should I really go to the trouble of building it myself? I really dont know more than stuff about ram and graphics cards. And I dont know what i should be aiming for since ive never been able to test it out different parts. I also dont know anything about compatability and I dont want to find myself in a big mess later.

So what dyou guys think? Should I still build myself?

Compatibility between parts would be the least of my concern if I were you. People here can be trusted to help you with that task its almost scary. The harder part would be to find a reliable place with good prices to buy the parts from that can either deliver to your house or that you can pick up.

Once that is done, people here can help you and you can read some info about making a computer and then you're in business.

Ive been reading through threads on here for about an hour and it looks like my best pick is to build.

I might have found where to get my items in switzerland. Im guessing they are reasonably priced but i guess ill check that with people on here once i get going. If not i guess i can order from amazon or something.

So where dyou think i should start? should I read up on some stuff or work with someone or whats the first stuff i need to look into?

dell and alienware are like Ford and Ferrari, ones more of a car, ones more of a lifestyle, so basically you'll get more from getting the dell, it goes more like this in terms of price build your own<dell<alienware, and dell owns alienware, just like hp owns voodoo

I heard dell just owns the rights and name of alienware but that its still run by its originals and not much has changed.

Haha :p

I'll say what most other people have said: build your own! It's not that hard after all, it's like playing around with legos. But if you really feel like buying a pre-built, the Dell seems good, maybe a little pricey. Even though I have no personal experience with dells, I don't quite understand why they get so much flak. If anyone tells you something like "dell sucks/blows", you'd probably better off lot listening to them - unless they come up with a good explanation for their opinion.
