So I got an old Optiplex GX270 from school and Im looking to use it to host files at lan parties (patches and the like).

I just finished a fresh install of Windows XP Pro but I cant remember/dont know what to do after the install.

It doesnt have the graphics (onboard) drivers installed so the monitor is stuck in 6xx X 4xx (forget exact resolution). Also, I cant get online because it doesnt have the drivers ethernet port (also on board).

Where can I get these drivers if thats the issue and how do I get them installed. I think i'll be fine if i can get the ethernet working.

I feel like a noob  . Ive installed so many times...jsut not recently.

install drivers and activate the OS.

Do find drivers, google search the model number of the device + drivers and then download one.

Found the driver page...i think.

http://support.dell.com/support/dow...4&l=en&s=bsd&os=WW1&osl=EN&ServiceTag=DQ0BQ31

Would these fix my problems. Which ones do I need? Video, Audio, and Network?
Which ones cause theres a bunch under those categories?

Do I have to burn those to a cd? Ugg i hate burning CDs.

no need to burn to a cd those are drivers just put them on a USB and transfer them over to the dell pc.. you will need : Video - Lan (network) - Chipset

those dells have dial-up modems i think, i don't think you need it, nor do you need audio, since it will be just a host

Thanks.
Itll work fine for hosting right?

EDIT: Looking at requirements for server, do you think itd be able to host a small (idk 14 slot) counter strike source server?

It has a gig of ram. Could get that up to 1.5 gigs.

Post the specs of the PC.

Maybe a bigger hard drive and maybe 2GB of ram might be good and you did a job scoring that for free!

Yeah, the IT at my school is so awesome. He just opens the door to the room of old computer stuff and says take what you want.

Im stoked. I have an internship with him next year.
