I know MMO's aren't everyones idea of fun, but my god, this looks incredible. I know it seems every few months there is a "WoWkiller" to be released, but I genuinely think of all the ones so far, this stands the best chance. It is so damn similar to WoW, but different enough for it to all be fresh and fun again. As soon as I have a steady amount of expendable income, I am certainly getting it.

A lot of people even in the WoW community think this may top WoW for alot of people. my wow time ran out today, I may wait and try this instead

Edit: Haha. If you read the general chat you see people arguing about whether this game is going to be better than wow or not

I played the beta of this a few weeks ago before I reactivated wow, and as a WoW player, I will say that this is definitely a contender to beat it.

Whenever I find myself playing an MMO other than WoW I always find myself comparing the two, this game I found to be very similar, but different all the same. I can't wait to see how this plays out when it is released.

I think it's downfall might be publicity, I only found out about it through gaming sites, they need to get the name out there a bit more.

I don't think it's a downfall. When WoW first went live I never saw anything about it. It wasn't til a friend of mine told me about it that I got into it. I think it'll be the same way for this game. Enough people know about it to populate the servers, and if the game is good, then more people will come via word of mouth.

With the exception of "retro" titles that are still going (nearly all by Nintendo now, Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Sonic etc) and very big titles (WoW expansions, CoD etc), what games get much publicity anyway? The only people that publicise new games are gaming sites really, you see an advert in magazines, occasionally on TV from time to time, but games, even though they are a much bigger industry than music and movies combined, don't get a whole lot of mainstream advertising.

I think one thing going for it is that it is available on Steam, that right there is huge publicity to PC gamers, as that is a substantial number of people that use it.

If it is as good as it looks, then word of mouth will be the best publicity as always, and it will keep the core original players, and only grow from there

lol I love yogscast (the people who make the videos), even if I hated the game I could quite happily just listen to them most of the time.

If you have ever played WoW, you will be able to play Rift no problems.

Well this is alright! I got my rift beta invitation this morning. I'll have to play it this afternoon to give my official thoughts. While I believe it's going to be to much like WoW to become very successful, I admit that I'm rather excited just by checking out the launcher.

Shame they don't make these games offline as well anymore. I hate the MMO aspect but the game itself looks fantastic.

However WoW is not that great of a game...sure the first game aka "vanilla" was great imho but every expansion it became crappier and crappier. Now you have Cataclysm which is the biggest piece of crap created last year. Now all you do is farm badges for EVERYTHING from patterns down to loot. I am surprised you can even farm ingredients anymore without token usage.

Cata is in everyway possible better than Wrath was, Wrath was garbage. Nothing compares to vanilla, but again its because it was all new, and wasnt geared towards the casual player. Something like 5% of the WoW community back then actually saw Naxx. That was when Blizz started making it less for the hardcore gamer and more for the casual player. Bad for those who love the game, great for Blizz's wallet. As far as your farming badges theory goes, its pretty much always been that way. In vanilla and BC you farmed rep, sure there were some drops too which I wish Blizz would have kept around, but its all the same. At least now Heroics are a little easier then they were in BC but atleast they are harder again, unlike that Wrath BS.

Now this Rift game, idk im undecided I guess.... From those videos its so much like Wow, not sure if thats good or bad. I dont know if I like the 4 classes with 8 subclasses, I think thats too much hybrid crap going on. The graphics look great though, and that AOE looting system might sell me on this lol. Does anyone know exactly if there is a raiding aspect of the game. Im guessing so considering there are dungeons. Is there world PVP, like Wow's PVP servers? Rift looks alot more promising than Aion was, thats one beta I wish i never played. I just dont know if this is a Wow killer, the Wow community is so rooted, to actually pull it from "King" hmmm thats a difficult task. Also with Rift is there a monthly play charge like with Wow?

I have gotten lucky so far that almost all off mmorpg games have sucked, because Im not going to stop playing Wow, the story line alone is amazing, Also being a huge Star Wars buff that mmorpg game I'll be playing as well, Idk if I hav ethe time or pocket book to play 3 lol.

Okay...so I think I'm going to get rift. It really is a lot like WoW, but that's not a bad thing. I thought the graphics at first were half decent, about on par with LOTRO, but then I set them to max.....WOW. And freakin A, the female models are actually something I don't mind looking at.

On WoW I was and always will be an alliance. But if we are saying that the guardians are equivalent of alliance and defiant to horde, For this game, I'm definitely gonna be defiant. And I'm gonna be a cleric justicar. Its the closest thing I could find to a paladin which is my trade mark class (the paladin in this game isn't at all the same). And I'm always gonna be kelari, just like I'm always draenei.

edit: and they tweaked so many things that were annoying with WoW, that was just overlooked...I got tired of trying to loot something and it have nothing..

If you were Horde you might now want to leave WoW lol :good:

Haha I keep resurrecting this thread, but I'm ultimately not sure whether or not to buy this game. I did enjoy the beta, it was really cool. Though I still don't understand the rift concept. But, I'm afraid it'll get stale. Like, so far it's had the WoW vibe, with the questing, killing, collecting, questing.

Has anyone else pre ordered it?

I am highly considering this game at this point. I quit wow during wrath and I really miss the grand MMO experience. However, WoW isn't what I want. I feel that game has passed its glory days and the upcoming panda expansion seems silly at best. I have the free 1-20 trial and it is great so far!

Does anyone play still and if so what are your thoughts? I am hoping Trion and its community sticks with this game because it needs time to grow, but I think it could morph into a really great game if it hasn't achieved that already.

I'm on Steampike as well, however really can't get into any MMO's since I left WoW. Even after trying to go back I still can't do it, I just find it boring doing the old grind. Rift did hook me the best since though, I have to agree it was a great game, just not for me any more.

With that said, roll on Guild Wars 2 :D
