I recently installed a 2500k and the temps are not satisfactory for me either. When I first put it on, I had to take it back off and then put it back on, so I figured that messed it up. Today I wiped it off and put in some arctic silver, letting the cooler spread it. This doesn't seem to solve the problem though, as my temps are still 33 idle 70 load.

I am going to wait a couple weeks and not do anything too strenuous, then if it is still a problem I will get an aftermarket cooler. The one that comes with the 2500k just looks wimpy.

viper, I bought myself and aftermarket cooler (Cooler Master Hyper 520) and im seeing idle lows of 26c-32c across all four cores and highs of 60c-61c under load across all four cores. I highly recomend ditching that heat sink, I too re applied the thermal paste using different techniques with the stock heat sink and so no benefits.

BIOS/UEFI does not have any power saving features like EIST or Cool'n'Quiet, they only function once you boot into an OS.

So your CPU is sitting there running at full pelt in the BIOS.

Excellent information, I did not know that! (no sarcasm)
