i have a q6700 im trying to put into a 680i board (striker extreme)

is something suppose to snap in? from what im seeing its spose to just lay in there, then you close the cap and lock it down

i lay it in there (gold arrow in the correct spot) and the cap doesnt come close to closing, and i dont want to force it down...any idea's?

did you lift up the arm fully next to the cpu port?

i havnt pushed down on the processor what so ever, the lever is all the way up, but when i put the cap back down on it, it doesnt close all the way down

unlike what some people think, it does take a bit of force to get that little lever to close the lid. a pound to three pounds should do it. and the lids flex sometimes when you close them, so thats natural.

There should be no force whatsoever when you insert the CPU (LGA775), however when you push the lever down, it does require a fair amount of force.

ok i have one more question before i put the pressure to the lever and lock it down, it looks like 3 of the pins on the motherboard have moved (this is a new build (my first) and i dont know if i shold go ahead and take everything back off and send it back or if it shold be fine? it was an "open box" deal at newegg, and it has looked like this sense i took the plastic cap off the lid of the CPU bay

i did the same thing. there is a rubber cover on the processor. take it off. and yes, i am serious (although this may not be your problem).

oh yeah thats just to keep dust out i think. but when you install the processor that little plastic part comes out.

and Geoff, that looks more like building my pc... ;)

i mean 3 pins on the socket look like they have moved, like folded over two north of the square whole in the center, and one on the outside line right corner

if there are a few pins bent, is it a work/wont work thing or will it possibly slow it down? if its a will or wont work deal i'd take my chances (i really dont feel like taking this thing apart and shipping the moboard back and waiting for another one :X but if it has a chance of working, but only slowing it down, i'd prefer to go ahead and swap it

yikes. you could bend them back with some sort of precision tool, something like a dental pick MIGHT work. if they are not EXACTLY back into place and you try it, it could very well fry your motherboard/processor. its not a slow down thing, its a pop sizzle flame thing.

but i would just send it back. you dont want to risk blowing up your processor.
