Fresh Install for Windows 10 Help Needed.

The optical drive recognizing something in the tray and the optical drive recognizing a bootable DVD are two different things. It's obviously not recognizing it as bootable since it won't install... Did you burn the Win10 as an .iso file? As johnb mentioned, if you just copied files over it...

    what am i doing wrong?

OK, this has gone on long enough. Pretty much just running in circles now.

    what am i doing wrong?

It's more for our own amusement at this point. ;)

    what am i doing wrong?

jones, It's sentimental, we get it. What we are trying to explain to you is that something that old is most likely either A: too cost prohibitive to repair due to parts availability, or B: not able to be repaired due to parts simply not in existence anymore. This isn't a classic car, it's a 13...

    Defrag SSD

You didn't damage it by doing it once. There's just no need to keep doing it - zero performance increase and just useless writes to the Drive. I have an almost full, never defragmented, 4-year old SSD that runs circles around a platter Drive that's defragged regularly.

    RGB Keyboard Suggestions

I'm a Corsair fanboy when it comes to keyboards. My primary is a K70 blue with Cherry MX Brown and my backup is another K70 red, also with CMX Brown. I tried their RGB series when it first came out and ended up returning it after 4 days. The board itself was beautiful - sturdy, elegant, high-end...

I'm hoping I'm not following a trend here...

I've been half-following this, hesitant to jump in since a few great member resources are already giving sound advice, but just had to drop this in ;)

They are also key to progressing past (and passing, for that matter) POST. If RAM is bad, system won't boot. Try pulling the RAM on a working desktop and turning it on - see what happens...

PSU failing? Should I be concerned?

Beers is right, this isn't a poultry matter.

PSU failing? Should I be concerned?

Agreed. How long is this going to go on?

    Can't use Windows 7 & 8.1 on new PC's - This isn't a joke?

I'd have to look more into that, but at first glance, somethings not right. First, it's an Opinion piece. There are way too many '...' mid-paragraph in that article, suggest things were intentionally left out. If that article were true, then if I were to build a new setup system next year...

The Return of Voyagerfan99's Minecraft Server

Haven't seen anyone the last several times I've logged in. Is it still a lot of activity Travis? Also, for those who wish to use it as a branch point, I built a home at 146, 65, 4459. There's no MTS line connecting yet, but it looks like a pretty diverse area with several biomes not that far...

    Story-based PC games

The Tomb Raider reboot is very good too. The first one came out a few years ago, and the new one was just released. Both great games, but story-wise, the first was better.

    Rate this fan setup

Yes. The number of fans isn't important - how well they (smoothly) flow air through the case (lower front to upper back) is. Personaly, I'd ditch the one on the side and the one up top, opting for two front, one rear. The way bottom PSU's are positioned, the PSU fan pretty much just takes care...

    Gmail lost emails?

Punk, it happened to me too sometime around late October. For about a day, a weeks worth was just gone, then miraculously just showed back up. I attributed it to a random Google quirk.

WD My Passport ext. drive is locked

So even using the Ubuntu Live CD, you can't access it?! Linux typically blows all MS security stuff away since they are separate systems. Try Installing Ubuntu to the Drive and see what happens. You can always delete/format it after the fact.

    Angry Geek Squad

Le sigh... Best Buy is a company that sells stuff. They hire sales people to sell their stuff (in this case, a service). The sales people are trained to sell the service, not necessarily service the item. Occasionally, given the law of averages, the line between 'selling the service' and...

    Windows 10 Fragmentation?

*Every* drive is going to have some degree or fragmentation; even a fresh Windows install on a brand new drive. In fact, whenever I did a fresh OS install, the first thing I did was go through 2-3 Defrag cycles just to clean everything up. Depending on the OS version, you could have upwards of...
