gameplay 'funness' and replayability is a big thing for me. i disagree with the statement that a good SP storyline is necessary. look at UT an UT04. absolutely no storyline, but terrific games. Games that install and run smoothly with good graphics and physics have an extra plus.

i believe raid 5 is essentially both raid 0 and raid 1. it has data striping but makes backups of your files as well (which in raid 5 doesnt slow down as much if I remember right), usually onto one or two backup drives. it's nice, but rather expensive since you'll need like 4 identical drives.

i'd say pixel pipelines. the 850xt also has a 256bit memory interface, and you can usually tweak a card a little in the frequency department afterwards. i'd say go 850xt.

even if vsync was on it wouldnt make your fps lower, it would just limit it to under your monitor's refresh rate (i think). so on yours, with it on, you'd reach a max fps of around 59 or 60 fps. it shouldnt matter if it's on or not.

quick question...when you use speedfan to check temps, are you measuring it by temp1 (what is displayed in the taskbar when the program is minimized.) ? I rechecked my temps and then run more like 26C idle (after sitting for a couple hours) and around 50C under load.

what would cause a hdd to run hot? I have a fairly good airflow in my case with 5 fans, so i'd imagine my hdds to run ok, but under load my 250gb caviar runs at up to 50 something degrees C. I've had a couple instances where i'd be playing a game then it would freeze for a minute or so then...
