    questions on memory

Hi, May I suggest this site for some of your answers? I think it does a rather good job explaining many of the items you are asking about. http://www.howstuffworks.com/pc.htm

GTX 280 or 4850 in crossfire

Thanks. I was wondering what the specs would be between these two setups.

GTX 280 or 4850 in crossfire

Not clear enough? Okay, I was simply asking what makes two 4850's outperform the GTX280. Is there something to back that up or is it opinion?

    Questions about the XFX MB-N780-ISH9

"Crap" is a bit harsh. There are a lot of better cards (for more money of course) but that card is hardly crap.

What is the basis for this statement?

Out of touch gamer looking for new card :)

Here's a chart that may be interesting. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html This shows the 9800 GTX is a better performer than the more expensive GTX 260.

Vista won't boot from HDD or DVD

Just a thought here. Have you tried setting everything at default (no overclock)?

    USB problems

Maybe it is formatted in a FAT file type which has the 4GB per file size limitation. Edit: hackapelite posted as I was writing. You have to be quick around here!

STOP: C0000221 unknown hard error \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

Hi, Is it the flat ribbon IDE cable that you use? If so, how many drives (hard drive or optical) do you have hooked to that cable?

STOP: C0000221 unknown hard error \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

Here's a Microsoft article on that error that may be some help. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314474 Also, if you have more than one hard drive installed, I would disconnect all drives other than the one you want to format and install Windows on to see if that helps. Canned air will...

    hard drive?

You'll definitely want to secure the drive in the cage properly to give it good airflow and prevent it from being damaged. If you are still going to retain your old drive, find some new screws. Or if the old drive has all 4 screws, in a pinch you could take a couple from it to use.

    I just reformatted to XP...

Ah, you have an M5100. No wonder we couldn't find it. Well, there seems to be XP drivers listed for that model too per the same link. Good luck and let us know how it goes for you.

    open office drawbacks???

OpenOffice can even open those miserable .docx files created by Word 2007. Earlier versions of Word cannot open these without some sort of patch or something.

    I just reformatted to XP...

I'm also kinda confused if we're talking laptop or desktop here. Acer's support page lists drivers for an Aspire 1500 laptop (no M1500 though). Here's a link in case you do have this laptop...

    Motherboard compatible with processor?

You will most probably need a new power supply as well. For one thing, your old board probably has a 20-pin main connector whereas your new board has 24-pin plus the 4-pin. I don't know what PSU you currently have, but those new parts you picked out will certainly need more power than your old...
