Actually you can windows Windows 98, ME and 2000 and maybe 95 on a NTFS filesystem.... I just installed ME on a NTFS 4 days ago :P It was a harddrive filled with pictures that was seconary on my fthers computer tha tmy mom used, and it ook it out and setup a windows ME computer for her own with it.
spyware, no viruses, many ISP's come with spyware, its what you agree too, viruses no, and becaus eyou have icons on youe desktop has no proof that its from AOL :P
as a future tip, dont update your bios unless you are lacking functionalty of something that a bios update will fix, basicly "dont fix what aint broke" :)
If you have onboard then you would need to install the drivers from your motherboard company, but generally its not the mobo's company chip actually, either way, ethernet is ethernet and theres not much to being better or worse.

That's actually a fairly terrible video card. its quite a bit worse then even a 6600, a 7300GS would be a better choice if hes on a low budget, but for the buget he says(yp to 150$) i would suggest a 7600GT which you can get for under 120$
Maybe install drivers if it has any? not sure, but a lot of people have problems with them.
IMO i would just buy a PCI controller card with a couple IDE slots on them. Proabally only cost 10$ or so.
I would have definatly gone for 2GB of ram, before you start DoD:s you can use a RAM monitoering program, Rivituner will do it too, play for about 5 minties, alt tab and look at it, i can almost gaurentee its going to be at almost a full GB :)
