    The case for nVidia 280

I can't justify paying 400ish for a graphics card when it will simply be reduced in price when the new stuff comes out. If you absolutely have to have the best stuff out there (and want to spend big bucks) then go for it. In a situation where this stuff continuously gets outdated, you have...

So after some research I decided on the 4850...

the 9800GTX+ performs better than the 4850. Now we can debate whether the additional performance is worth the extra 20-30 bucks. as for a 4870 being 30 more than a 9800GTX+, that is not true unless you compare the most expensive 9800GTX+ to the cheapest 4870. 9800GTX+'s are going for 200ish...

So after some research I decided on the 4850...

not according to all the benchmark results and other statistics. I think the people who prefer the 4850 just prefer ATI over NVidia. I have yet to see a reason to prefer the 4850 (other than having a 20-30 dollar cheaper price)

    Overclock Advice

werd a new video card would do wonders. then when you want to upgrade the rest of the setup later, you can keep the video card. well wait, does your current setup use PCI express video card or AGP? if it uses PCI express then you can reuse it later since you would most probably upgrade to a...

    Do I need thermal grease?

honestly why do you guys argue over something so trivial? spinning the heatsink will at best make sure the thermal paste/compound/whatever you want to call it is applied evenly. In most cases you probably don't have to spin it at all. I usually spin mine whatever amount the heatsink mounting...

Should i make an upgrade to my current CPU?

make sure the memory muliplier is set to by 2 and run your processor at 400X7 the memory should run 800 no problems, and I bet it will even run a little faster. Maybe your RAM multiplier is set to 2.4 or some high number right now.

    e8400 wont overclock

are they channel A/B timing and driving settings set to auto? if that won't work, what BIOS version do you have? Maybe flashing the BIOS to the newest version would help, I'm not sure. and also, will the computer POST if you set the FSB to 333 manually with the CPU host clock control enabled?

Should i make an upgrade to my current CPU?

I have an E6550 in my spare rig and I have clocked it to 513X7 for 24/7 use. IMO you could easily clock it to 3-3.3 GHz and have a lot faster setup than you do now.

go through all the settings on the RAM and make sure they are set to auto. when bubblescivic had problems with clocking his, I found that the advanced timing settings for the RAM had some weird settings.

    dual booting vista and xp

I'm not sure how to do this if you want to keep your current copy of Vista intact, but what I did was start over from scratch, using a single hard drive. I first installed XP, making 3 partitions on the hard drive. Then I installed Vista onto one of the partitions. Now when I start up I can...
