    Nero movie burning

Nero should be able to burn the files (.vob) to a disc. Make sure you add all the files that were processed to the Nero Burning Rom. Meaning all the converted output files. It seems that this guy has had luck with DVD Shrink. I guess its worth try since Wednesday is coming quick. Let me know...

what are these kind of laptops are made to do?

I have an MSI Wind U120 and it has the netbook standard 1024x768. It's pretty good, I can watch some movies on it in high quality. I wouldn't recommend it however for any type of viewing material in HD.

Says 55gb being used, but can only see 13gb used??

Well what kind of backup is this? A backup as in documents, folders, data etc. or a ghost of a drive? It could be the OS install, the programs that can't be transferred, or any games installed.

    Ebay Debit Card Issue

It could be that your card isn't supported. I know some processing centers won't accept certain ones. An alternative would be to contact them or setup a separate Paypal account.

what are these kind of laptops are made to do?

Netbooks are made for basic needs like internet, e-mail, word processing. I wouldn't rely on a netbook to convert movies or stream them.

    SATA Expansion Card

If you have PCI slots you can put in an e-sata card (the drive would be external though).

    Cleaning up (ex)wife's laptop suggestions

Haha yeah be careful with MSCONFIG you can mess up a lot! I would enable a diagnostic startup, from there you can go into your settings and delete useless programs.

    Nero movie burning

If you have Nero Smartstart, launch that. You will see a nice pretty GUI. Select Nero Burning Rom on the left. From there, there is a menu on the left again that you can select CD or DVD, and from there once again on the left is a menu for DVD-Video or CD-Video depending on your preference...

    Desktop Items

I don't think they can just disappear, I don't know of such a feature. I would suggest running a form of virus scan software just in case something is up.

How to: Downgrade to Windows XP

Correct, the sad thing is HP has started to not offer the backwards drivers for XP. So with a ton of work it can be done, but it's a royal pain

    Cleaning up (ex)wife's laptop suggestions

I think Vista uses close to a gig of ram at idle, so you're probably fine. There's many ways to manually uninstall or stop startup programs.

    SATA HDD's on IDE motherboard??

The internal adapter would probably be the way to go for both speed and economy. The other option like you said would require you to have the HDD outside of the case. The speeds probably should be right on. By any chance you could also buy a cheap IDE drive to throw in there.

    Nero movie burning

Go into Nero and select Nero burning rom. From there you want to select DVD-video or Video-CD. Then add all your files into the box and burn the data to a disc. It should automatically set the files to play in a DVD player by standard settings.

    XP 64 to Vista 32

Yeah I'd have to agree with Omega. They use two different structures basically. What program are you having troubles with?

    Western Digital or Seagate?

Western Digital and Seagate drives are both very reliable. I would watch out for Hitachi deskstars (deathstars).

What you think about this camera? good? bad? ok?

Correct. I would like to add that it's no big deal really. It is a pain, but if you go to places like CVS or Walgreen's or really any photo place they can retrieve them for you and make copies. Proprietary stuff is usually a pain, but the Memory Stick Duo is pretty widely known.

    laptop vs tower/desk top

A toward can hold more and that means the motherboards will be more versatile. You can also build a tower by yourself for much cheaper than a laptop. Laptops do overheat, but that wouldn't really be an issue for you (especially know laptops are tested to determine their faults before sold)...
