Sounds like either a bad mobo or bad ram. Try running 1 stick of ram at a time in different slots.

Well with so little info i couldn't diagnose a possible problem but to reset the CMOS you need to keep the batterey out for longer than 30 seconds. Take it out, unplug the psu, and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then leave the battery out for another 5 minutes.

The i7 is certainly faster. The benifits of the i7 are that it's faster, overclocks at least as well, and the mobo has future upgradability. If it's not too finantially detrimental then get the i7, otherwise don't.

Well get a new heatsink and install it. If you start up and it runs fine then your luckyif it doesn't then get a new CPU for your socket and use the new good heatsink on it.

I think a driver problem is pretty unlikely. I've installed ATI -->nVidia and vise versa without even uninstalling the previous driver and I've never had problems. While it's worth trying I don't have hopes for it working. I still hold that a reformat is the best option... It not only solve...

Well the i7 runs really hot otherwise I wouldn't consider the second radiator/pump. it runs at 70c after an hour of orthos. As long as I'm redesigning my whole system I want to make sure it's top notch.
