    chec kthis out

I know this is not much immediate help, but you might want to look at this link. Hopefully it will be of some help in your investigation of this problem. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/explained-kernel-panic-not-syncing-attempted-to-kill-init-353920/?

I just put together a build for $450.00 with a monitor!

Haven't seen a post by Cohen for a while. Maybe he's had enough.

    Looking for a new processor

I too would choose the 89w 3.1GHz over the 125w 3.0GHz if you can, but look at your motherboard's CPU support list here. http://www.asrock.com/mb/cpu.asp?Model=ALiveNF6G-VSTA&s=AM2 The 3.0 is listed but the 3.1 isn't. Might want to check with ASRock before deciding on the 3.1 GHz option.

    Good HDD Deal?

Yeah, Newegg is now offering the same drive for the same price with a MIR and free shipping as well. Or if you want the open box, it is $100 more. Don't really understand why they sometimes increase the price for open box. But sometimes Newegg's price can be beat, so it is not a given they will...

    Will This Fit

My 2 cents worth on this. You'll need a 24-pin power connector on your power supply. You don't list what you'll be using. You'll need DDR2 ram. According to the ASUS CPU support page, you're going to need bios version 1001 or newer for that CPU. Link...

No sound from front headphone jack

For some reason that doesn't work on my system. To use speakers or headphones, I have to go into the control panel and set them to the default. But I'm glad it worked for you. :)

No sound from front headphone jack

Do you use Vista? When I use headphones with Vista, I have to set the headphones as the default device in the control panel before they work. I am not sure if this is a Vista issue or something with my hardware.

    Apple's New MacBook

Well, that 13 inch Macbook just got crossed off of my wish list. What was Apple thinking?

    Good HDD Deal?

Poor wording on my part, I guess. Tiger Direct and Zipzoomfly are both offering the same drive for the same price after a $30.00 MIR. My point was Zipzoomfly was also offering free shipping.

    Good HDD Deal?

I'm not a big fan of MIR's either. Here's the same deal with free shipping. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10005968

    Apple's New MacBook

I would really like to replace my old G3 iBook with the 13 inch 2.4 GHz model, but spending $1,850 for the base model with the extra warranty is just not going to happen right now.

    Nvidia or ATI?

I would think the 8x + 8x only applies to when two cards are installed. Just out of curiosity, do you have the graphics card installed in the secondary slot? From here: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=251

Plug and Burn program for miniDV

Windows Movie Maker doesn't work? I use Adobe Premiere Elements, but I also do editing. Can't really see paying that much if you're not going to edit.

    Nvidia or ATI?

I was going to say the same before looking at the specs on that 3870 card. 775MHz core and 2400MHz memory clocks is better than my 8800GT, and I have the OC edition. But I was wondering if the 8800GT Twist86 has is not already 2.0 compliant or at least 2.0 compatible.

Does this graphics card need a power supply?

Seems like it is under-powered then. Personally, I would replace it before using that AGP card.

Does this graphics card need a power supply?

If you are asking if the card needs a separate power supply for it, then the answer is no. Your computer must have a 350W or greater according to the ATI system requirements for that card. What power supply do you currently have? The specs are usually written on the power supply's label if you...

Hard drive upgrade on an ancient iBook. Went from 6GB to 80GB to install OSX Panther. It runs it surprisingly well.

    Which Radeon to buy

I know what you mean. Often, whenever I buy something it will drop in price very quickly. I haven't purchased a 4870X2 yet though, so maybe the price will hold steady for you. :D

    240watt work with a 8600/8500gt?

I'm not an expert on this topic, but I'm thinking that 240W is too small for your system regardless of the graphics card used. You may want to use a PSU calculator to see what would be recommended and go from there. There's a few calculators on the web but here is one in case you need an...
