I am at the moment having issues with installing Ubuntu Linux OS. I have been able to install but not boot it up. I am getting a message that says "Kernel panic - not syncing - killing init! I purchased the Ubuntu CD at Best Buy. CD is free from defects and memory test came back OK. I am trying to figure this out because it is holding my Marketing company back.

At the same time I have come to know that Linux is a bit of a pain. I am also looking to have a company on hold to help have less down time. I have lost 4 days of work already and can't have this happen again.

I know this is not much immediate help, but you might want to look at this link. Hopefully it will be of some help in your investigation of this problem.

When you see this message, it's almost always at boot-time, and the real messages ... the cause of the actual failure ... will be found in the startup messages immediately preceding this one. This is often the case with kernel-panics. init encountered something "really bad," and it didn't know what to do, so it died, so the kernel died too.
