    Office Trial loading?

OpenOffice is free. Give it a shot, it can do pretty much anything MS Office can.

    The best Community Firewall

You could do something like an Untangle box. It'll work as a router, firewall, ad blocker, VPN server, etc. It's got quite a bit of capabilities. Check it out and see if you're interested: Untangle

Why is Seagate now only offering 2 Year Warranties?

It could very well be a cost saving measure, or possibly they're seeing that hard drive technology is advancing at a fast enough rate (think SATA transfer rates over the past couple years), and even the possibility that they're expecting more users to be going the SSD route, that they're not...

File names too long for external harddrive

John is correct, that you should probably back up the data before converting to NTFS. If you choose to live dangerously and wish to convert to NTFS without backing up you would do this: 1. open a command prompt 2. type "convert x: /fs:ntfs" (without quotes - substitute your drive letter for x)

    Point of power options?

Some of them will turn off different pieces of hardware, or even suspend the PC to RAM, in order to save power.

Why do I have 2 different IP addresses?

One is an internal address that was assigned by your router on your LAN (probably a 192.168.1.xxx address). The other is your WAN address that your ISP assigned. If you have a dynamic IP address from your ISP, you could probably change your IP, by disconnecting/reconnecting to their network...

Your hosts file is probably set as "read only." I don't see anything bad in it from your screen capture though.

    "No Marvel Hard Drive Detected"

There should be a setting to enable/disable the controller, which should resolve your problem.

PC powers on but no beeps from motherboard

Has anything changed since it was last used? No moving the PC from one location to another, new hardware added/removed, etc.? I'd probably bet on it being a bad power supply, if you have one to borrow from another PC, to test with.

    Cisco WRT160N or D-Link WBR-2310?

I'm happy with my D-Link router. My last two Linksys routers (since they went to the internal antennae) have been kinda flaky. One I put DD-WRT on until a power surge zapped it, and the other I left with Linksys firmware. Both would drop wireless clients constantly, or the wireless connection...

Will this work as a server?

Wow, that's way more than you need for a file server. For a while, I had an old Athlon XP 3000+ serving my files and that was still way more than I ever could need.

My Vista Wont Work At All Now

What's the problem with the Vista system, without searching through your previous posts? Perhaps we can condense everything here and try to resolve your issues, so your system works again. Does the system turn on at all? It sounds as though it isn't powering on at all?

What are fair prices for 2nd-hand hardware?

It depends which Athlon CPU it is. I believe the Athlon name started back around 1999, so there's a lot of processors that could fall into that range. If it's old enough, I wouldn't pay anything, so we really need to know which parts we're being asked about.

    Majicjack Windows Conflict.

I also have a Magic Jack and it works perfectly on my Toshiba laptop. If you happen to have, or know someone with a powered USB hub that you could borrow, see if it works on there without issue. I know the Magic Jack says not to use a hub, but that's because of the power issue. If you're...

I Think I screwed up My Machine

Please don't take offense to this comment, but the first post was painful to read. It would be much easier to help, if your entire post wasn't one long run-on sentence. Use periods and create sentences. I would give that an F if I was grading it.

Need help with USB video borescope...Someone smart please chime in!!!

You most likely need to install a driver for the device. Think of it as a webcam. While it may use a generic driver that is contained within Windows, it still needs one installed. You could probably purchase an old P4 or equivalent laptop for under $100 that is more than capable of performing...
