i'm trying to create a desktop pc thats basic not fancy, just so long its above a 486 level.

so what are fair prices for my ideal target, which is...

athalon cpu
heatsink+fan
matching motherboard
set of 3 ribbon cables
sd ram 512mb
agp video card
sound card
modem pci card
cd-rom drive
cd-rw
hdd <20gb
fdd
pc-case

ps - sorry if this query is a bit long, but i'm at loss as to whats the going rate for 2nd hand hardware.
so cheers for any help.

well if you get an athlon II cpu like the 250/55/60, then it will most likely find a am3 mobo, which will most likely have a pci-e x16 slot and no agp, which is good cuz an agp slot is alot less efficiesnt (slower) than any pci-e (not pci, pci is slower than agp), and there anre normally decent deals on cards like the 8800 and 9800 gt's, which are pretty dated but will probably be the best performance you can find, normally about 40-50 for them, it's just your luck and how many people are watching/bidding on the item.

and you will also need an os disk, can probably find a decent xp disk and a hdd cuz it is illegal to sell the disk alone or something like that on ebay, idk y, read it when i was looking for them. you may want to try ubuntu on your current pc to try it out cuz if you get it to work you might want to use it as it is a free os and is pretty nice once you get the hang of it, i'm on it now, and durring bootup i can choose between windows and ubuntu

It depends which Athlon CPU it is. I believe the Athlon name started back around 1999, so there's a lot of processors that could fall into that range. If it's old enough, I wouldn't pay anything, so we really need to know which parts we're being asked about.
