*I want to play games at 1680x1050, everything maxed*
*I'd like it to last as long as possible*
*My GPU budget is the 8800gtx, but i would really like it to last, and not die out in 4 months*
*So is it really worth it to wait? I mean GPUs aren't the same as other components, there really isn't a better one around the corner when they are released annually*

With #4, i'd essentially use that until the 9800 GTS comes out, then i'd buy that. So it's more future proof.

I know this is asked often, but i'd like an opinion as i plan on ordering everything today.

Decided to just get the 8800 gts 320 mg for $312, then sell it later when the 9800 comes out, if i only lose $100, it'll be better than getting the 8600 for $100.

Good idea. The 640mb performs almost exactly the same as the 320mb even at a high resolution.. The 320 will be a good card to hold you off.
