I was planning on hooking my laptop to a 900p monitor I had laying around, but I didn't have a keyboard. So I thought I'll just get a decent and cheap (Not dirt cheap of course) keyboard. But my mom keeps telling me "If you were going to use a different keyboard and monitor, then why did you get an expensive computer? You could have just bought a cheap keyboard and monitor instead of this laptop". (I got a laptop for moveability) She knows about tech, but it just frustrates me that she thinks I got the laptop for the screen and keyboard. How can I tell her that thats not how it works? And sorry for this long thread :(

Tell her it's more convenient than trying to do this:

many years ago I used my laptop as a Internet connection point using WIFI, a cross over cable and ICS. then my computer messed up or something (been years, can't remember) and used my laptop as my main computer with a monitor, keyboard/mouse. It's fine I guess. I'm typing on my laptop now on the couch. I use it more for Internet than my desktop. Desktop is just for gaming primarily. Have a Dell mini 910 in the kitchen I call the kitchen kiosk that is on 24/7 for monitoring the phone with Phone Tray. I have Filezilla server on there with the data being stored on a SSD card and a teamspeak server. Been good now for over a year. Like to buy a Windows 7 netbook for when I go out.
