1000$ Budget

Hello, I would like to build a good gaming computer for under 1000$. This would be including monitor and peripherals. Here is what I came up with, and I would greatly appreciate suggestions on what to do and what to improve.

bump the processor to a 955 and the GPU to a 6*** series (or a GTX 470 or newer) and it would be a great system.

The 955 will be easier to OC b/c of a unlocked multiplier. Its worth the upgrade.
Would this be a good video card? I'm trying not to spend too much.

it will be a very good card. Its the current mainstream model, and should offer good performance.
Just remember that you can always upgrade later, and sell the current card to cover most of the upgrade. But that 6850 is a strong card as is.

Would it run the latest games on high? I'm planning on getting an
Acer S211HLbd 21.5'' 5ms LED-Backlight LCD Monitor Slim Design.
It's $140.00, 1920 x 1080, that seems kind of too good to be true for me, considering I bought a much lower resolution one from Wall-Mart at the same price. Would this be a good monitor?
 
it should be able to run that monitor fairly good.
It should power most games at High. If not a future CF would solve that.
i think the 6850 is about equal with the 5750, which was the previous generation of gaming card. (wouldnt quote me on it).

Ok, thanks. I was wondering about the thermal paste thing, is it absolutely necessary?
 
yes, it is. Thermal Paste is what transfers the heat from your CPU to the Heat Sink (cooler) for it to remove from the system. Without the paste, your CPU will fry like bacon within an hour most likely. Your CPU will come with some stock paste, but if you plan to OC any I suggest AS5 and a good 3rd party cooler.

Could you please elaborate what a 3rd party cooler is? And where exactly would I apply the paste, on the processor?
 
well, i have no idea how long it would take. Never ran one w/o the thermal paste, never been stupid enough to try it.
I assume that some heat would still be transfered between the coper base of the heatsink and the CPU, just as a stove transfers heat to a pot w/o interface paste. But it would probably be minimal at best.

Its any CPU cooler not supplied by the manufacturer of the cpu. like the ones here: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=574&name=CPU-Fans-Heatsinks.

Now it's time to apply the thermal paste. Please note that usually the heatsink comes pre-applied with a thermal compound, so this step may not be necessary. However if yours didn't include any thermal compound on the heatsink, or you wish to use a higher quality thermal paste, then follow these directions. You only need a small amount of thermal paste for proper conductivity, too much or too little will cause an increase in temperatures and may even cause shorting if too much thermal paste is applied and it falls down onto the motherboard. As shown in the picture below, you only need a small amount in the center of the CPU. I usually apply a small dot between the size of a grain of rice and a small pea, then I gently spread it around for a more even distribution.

Thank you for clarifying! I was afraid I would apply the TP in some ridiculous place and ruin my computer.

W/ the rest of your list-under$1000 and your list could probly be made less w/o sacrifice.

In any event, I don't see much reason an AMD gaming rig for under 1,000 couldn't have a 6950. Thermaltake isn't to be trusted. 430w is not enough for that 5770.

The 6850 is a mid-end GPU, 6950 is high end. Its better to get 6950 now than upgrade to it in the future. Though 6850 will play most of the games at high settings, I think you won't get the proper FPS.
