I'm just wondering what would give better performance.
I'm think the higher res. without AA would be better for performance.

Higher res without AA more than likely, also games tend to look better at lower settings on native resoloution, then higher settings at a lower resoloution.

i thought so. my new monitor is 1280x1024 by default... I'm just about to go pickup my mobo from the post office and i'll fire her up and post some benchies of crysis... that arrived too along with my monitor :) today has been good

Your going to play Crysis with a 3870:eek: Good luck

Only until I get a new card... prolly a 4870 if i save enough... and that means a new powersupply too ;)
Apparently the 3870 does better than an 8800gt when OCed a little... which i will do :)

Yea the 3870 is a pretty good card about the same as a 8800GT and a little better once OC'ed. A 4870 wont max out Crysis but you might get to medium or medium high settings without any lag. Need a GTX 295 to max it out.

Is there much of a difference between High and Very High on Crysis? I know that Medium looks just a little better than Far Cry (the original). I've also got Crysis Warhead and Far Cry 2 arriving this week :) And that's all i'll play for a while, besides CS:S... Ha, I bet my 3870 could max CS:S no probs.

yes there is a considerable difference. i get about 40-50 fps on high, and about 15 on very high. very high looks quite amazing though.

I have never played it on very high my friend has GTX 285 and he can play on high with no lag so that is the only thing I have played it on. I'm sure you can find some youtube videos of people playing on high and very high and compare them. Yea you won't have a problem with CS:S I would hope not it is like 5 years old.

CS:S is no problem. I got 60+ FPS on 1024x768 with my ol Radeon X1650 Pro, P4 2.6ghz and 768mb of DDR.. with 6x AA and 16x AF... i was gobsmacked.

EDIT: my cousin has a gaming pc, he doesn't even have crysis... all he plays is WoW... shame really, he could have given it to me. ;)

Personally I don't like Crysis enough to buy it I'm more of a call of duty person myself but I love to play racing games especially MotoGP or Forza.

Hey, i just read somewhere that in crysis, when you use AA and it causes lag, switch it to 8x and the lag goes away even if the setting was lower... does this work?

Don't know doesn't make much sense to me seems like it would make it lag more I guess you will just have to try it. Although there is probably a patch to fix it already.

Most likely. When i install it i'll have to remember to patch it to avoid the general crap you get with new games. Far Cry 2 for example.
While we are on the subject of crysis, are there any tweaks that can boost performance with minimal/no loss in image quality? links would be handy if you have them :)

and one more thing, if Warhead looks better than Crysis and it performs better on the same hardware, how would my 3870 handle it?

I know there are some thing out there to boost the FPS but I don't know if they help with the overall performance.

Why wont your try this out http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest to see what it says about crysis on your system.

The 3870 should be able to handle both of them on minimal to low settings and still get decent FPS.
