1066Mhz VS. 800MHZ & Maybe Looking For Some Good PC8500 for C2Q Build:

I am not exactly posative on the mobo I will use but I am leaning twords this:

MOTHERBOARD: EVGA nForce 680i SLI NVIDIA Socket 775 ATX Motherboard (New T1 Version) = $179.99+$8.99= $188.95

Reason being its supports 1066mhz RAM wich I like, I dont want to me limited to 800mhz. But for now, should I splurge on the PC8500 or is the PC6400 still good stuff?.. do you think I will feel a diffrence that is worth the price diffrence now or shoud I wait? How is this ram? any sugestions?

RAM: OCZ Dual Channel 2048MB PC8500 DDR2 1066MHz Nvidia SLI-Ready X 4GB = $179.99+179.99= $359.95

Another question, do I need special ram for SLi?.. I see alot of the ram says SLI on it?.. I do eventually plan on running SLI but not yet, does that effect it?

SLI RAM has nothing to do with SLI video cards. It's nvidia's name for RAM with enhanced performance profiles.

As for how fast you want your RAM, there is really no advantage running RAM faster than your effective FSB speed (ie dual channel DDR2-1066 on a Core 2 Duo board) because it will be limited by how fast the CPU can access it.

I would say no, it's not worth it spending much more money on DDR2 1066 RAM, the reason being that you wont notice a difference unless you compare benchmark results. If you really want high speed RAM, you can buy DDR2 800 and overclock it. Granted you probably wont reach 1066, but you should be able to hit 900-1000 which will give you a bit more performance.

ok, well I am in a bit of a benchmark race with some friends, so I would like a little boost there, I think I will set my limit to spending no more than $50 on upgrading from PC6400 to PC8500. Let me do some research: Well after looking it up I would need to drop about $75-$100 diffrece average to go with PC8000 or PC8500 over PC6400. So I will go for the PC6400, Now I need help chosing what to get? Is all ram prety much created equal?.. is there good brands? or do I just look for ram that can run tight timings? Can you sugest 4 gigs from TigerDirect.

Thanks

Do you think its worth it to keep the mobo that supports the PC8500 for future use when the price of PC8500 goes down like PC6400 did!, I will be spending about $70 more on the mobo for mainly this feature only.. Thanks

WOW, where is that?.. Newegg or tiger? is that decent ram?.. hell I think I will order one under my name and ship it here, and one to my moms and ship it there, so I get both rebates.
