1080 3D capable GPU $300 or under

I got a friend looking for a GPU.He got a Crosshair V Formula/Thunderbolt mobo & AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition off craiglist for 300.He is looking to dump another 300 or less in a GPU.He wants to get the GPU,then build the rest from their.All he told me was,
He wants it to run stable 1080 or beter on latest games,3D able,& have a HDMI.
He doesn't care about multiple monitor setup,single is fine.I think he has a 27",32",or 34" monitor.

If he wants brand new from newegg or something go gtx 570?

I'd try and save a $100 and look for a used GTX 480... personally. even though it consumes more energy 30-50 watts more than the gtx 570?
 
570 is over 300 and i would say the 6950, idk about the 480's performance but i know it's a super hot power killer. but if he can the 570 would probably be better for him running 1080 3d.
 
480 is faster than the 6950.

Depends if this guy cares about a little bit more heat and usage of power. If he wants to buy used or new...
 
yeah since newegg only carries 1 480 at like 310 i don't think new is really an option and i doubt any where else will have a good priced one, but that think does look like a beast with the evga cooler on it.
