10k RPM vs 7200?

Does it really make the difference in boot up time? I'm also a Visual Studio user... anyone out there with experience could give me some pointers? Just exactly how much of a difference can one expect by doing the switch?

boot times, no idea if it would make a super dramatic difference but in long term data throughput yes, the higher RPM drive will be faster.

There will be a slight diffrence,But is it worth it imo?....No.

It will probably run hotter,be louder and they are still expensive over here.

If you really "Really" want speed...get an SSD drive.

All I can say is it depends on the product, so definitely try to see the product rated against others as much as possible before buying. Also, with hard drives- the faster performers usually are louder, require more cooling, and consume a little bit more wattage. Check specs, read reviews, and watch benchmarks before investing.

You know... being in IT... I have to say I'm quite embarrassed that I have not yet touched a SSD drive yet. The only turn off is the expense

The only issue I have with my VelociRaptor is how much I paid for it. ($230)

I don't get great read/write speeds with it (about 100MB/s...).

I would have been better off with a couple $50 drives in RAID 0. :(
