I am trying, and failing at preparing a flash drive to boot from. I will just give a picture of the error so that you can see what I am seeing. Is there a way to overcome this error?

if your in 7, click on the folder (libraries), and select downloads (2 above libraries on the left side). You should find your .iso image there.

yes I downloaded it and unzipped it, but when I try to link infrarecorder to the iso it doesn't show up.. or am I supposed to link it to the unzipped file?

-Afterwards.. OH MY GOD THANK YOU I DIDNT THINK OF LINKING THE ZIPPED FILE :D

another way to get 11.04

If you have anearlier version of ubuntu simply go to updates and at the top of the update window click on upgrade to new version. It takes several hours.

I dont have an older version. Im trying to install as part of my guide for the forum.
I guess I can wait another 3 hours for 10.04 to download.

Ubuntu website has perfect instruction on how to install the OS from flash and I have used it with no problem.

Personally for some of you I am going to recommend Lubuntu instead. I have been using Ubuntu since 8.04 and honestly it just seems to get more dissappointing with every release, It continues to get slower and more and more bugs as they attempt to get everything compatiable with the OS.

You recon. I followed the instructions on the site. Its a problem with the 11.04. There has been 5400 bug reports filed about it. Its not an isolated problem.

Damn that is a lot of bugs, That is why I stopped using Ubuntu. I liked Unity, I like the way Ubuntu was trying to go with making everything work with Ubuntu like mobile device syncs being more flawless and better software but I noticed it had many bugs and it was running slower. I don't see the point to using a Linux OS with so many problems and runs so heavy.

I have become disappointed in Ubuntu.

Have you tried using unetbootin?
http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

And i know you said there is a bug reported, but have you verified the checksum? Also, have you read the bug reports, to see if there is a workaround. If it's that big of a issue, someone surely has figured it out by now.

I dont know how many bugs are in 11.04 itself, but 5400 people has reported the USB installer bug. The only reason that I looked that up was being sure that it wasnt an issue with my download.
10.04.2 installed without issue though, so Im not too much on messing with the newer version yet.

checksum: whats this?
workaround, install via CD/DVD. Ubuntu staff's response is that they are currently working on a fix to the usb installer. Their word is to use 10.04.2 and use the update feature to upgrade to 11.04.

Final Fix to my issue is installing 10.04.2 and letting it go.

In simple terms, you generate a checksum file for the iso of the OS. Then you compare it to the checksum your supposed to get, which can usually be found the same place you got the download. If there the same, you have all the data. If not, something went bad in the download, which could be your issue.

So in essence, it makes sure all the data is there.:good:

my checksums dont match for 11.04. I tried on grandads computer and got the same error on the checksums (err as in same checksum that is wrong)

I already have. Later I will check via teamviewer to see of the one at home will download right. The one here at grandads will not pass the checksum either. I may just have to buy a 5 pack from them to get it to work.

I tryd a torrent of 11.04, and malewarebytes read a Trojan on it. Be sure to scan it with a antivirus before you use it.

I dont think its conicals fault. It may be an intermediary server error during the download. I say this because it only being 90 miles between home and here, it is possible that we both may be accessing the site from the same local server.
