1333 vs 1600?

How much difference in performance would one see between identical PCs, one with 1333MHz RAM another with 1600 MHz, and in what tasks would the difference be most apparent?

You won't see an awful lot of difference in everyday stuff (such as web browsing). You're going to see more performance in things like gaming (possibility) and video/photo editing - basically anything which needs to access RAM a lot.

If you're buying new RAM then go 1600 all the way since it is faster and usually about the same cost. In fact, 1866 tends to be just a tiny bit more expensive than 1600 these days, so you could even look at that.

Although to run 1866, you actually need to dive into Bios and set it up. It is not that hard and nowadays it doesn't even overclock the processor, so it is an option, even if you never played with Bios.

That's what I suspected... I'm preparing to build a system and have some 1333 which I'll stick in to begin with, just wondering about the value in buying faster. Thanks for the info.

If you've already got 1333 and not doing a lot of demanding stuff then it'll be fine.

I wouldn't bother picking between 1333 or 1600, whatever is cheapest or highest capacity. Going above 2000mhz makes a difference. My rule is always capacity over speed, within reason.

I ended up 16GB of 2400mhz stuff because RAM was cheap when I bought... it goes through cycles, if it's cheap, don't delay if you can afford. Waiting you may pay more. On the flipside, if it's too expensive... just wait.

Best to look and see where the price cycle is
