1440p or 4k

So I am going to build a computer soon, something like this but I might change the case or motherboard or PSU. However, as you see, I am unsure if I should go 1440p with everything maxed or 4k with Med-Hi settings. Another issue is monitor price. I'm talking under 500. I don't want stuttering or lag but G-Sync puts the price waay too high.
I've seen this 1440p monitor and
this and this 4k monitor.
However, none of these have good refresh rates or response times.
Any help or recommendations?

If I wanted to play games I'd go with 1440p and be confident you can max games out with the 980 Ti. If you want to play games at max settings and you're not planning to upgrade soon then 1440p is for you, but if you're happy with medium settings and you think you'll put another 980 Ti in the system or upgrade the GPU in the near future then go with 4K. If I wasn't interested in gaming (which I'm not particularly) I'd go 4K.

I would go with a 1440p panel, for me the higher settings are definitely worth it. The price you have to pay 4K in a high resolution are I think not worth it at the moment. I'm playing on a 1440p monitor myself and my experiences with it so far are great.
