so I'm planning on purchasing a nice gaming laptop...I thought I wanted a big 17" screen for it but I'm hearing some stories of how they are to big and hulky...so vote and if you have any comments, post em! :)

go with a 10" lappy. thats not bulky :D 17" has a better than of landing a 1920x1080 resolution. good for games and hd movies :)

I got a 12" laptop and could see me going with another tiny one. The only problem is that the smaller ones tend to get hotter. But of course the larger ones typically weigh much more...

If you are just using your laptop on a table and playing games than I would choose the 17", but your taking your laptop around to places and playing games than I would choose the 15". I have a 17" and I like for movies, music, etc... but when I try using it on my laptop on my lap it's sometimes hard to use because it's big and I need to keep it from falling off my lap.

both screen sizes offer a sweet 1920x1200 resolution. I will primarily be gaming in my dorm so yeah it won't be going that many places other than to class. But also I'm a big guy, my dad has both a 15" and a 17" and I've never had a problem using either. I'm just wondering if the 17" has any drawbacks like consuming battery life faster or just being bulkier. Doesn't seem like it would be that much harder to travel with, doesn't weigh that much more...

Well the battery depends on not just the screen brightness but also processor power, what programs your running, like playing a movie or playing cds, etc... 17" aren't too bulky and if you use the max battery power setting when your on batter power, your battery should last at least 3 to 4 hours.

If your a strong fellah and dont mind carrying 12 lbs along with books and stuff then I'd say go with the 17. You can do alot more with the 17 inch laptop than you can with a 15.4, but with the new technology that has been released 15.4 laptops arent too bad either. But since you want to game, and arent going to be taking it many places..go with the 17..Dell, Alienware (even though they run hot) etc etc have very good ones.

well the 17" alienware is only 8.5 pounds acording to their site.

I think I'm going to go with the 17" because I just read that it has a FULL SIZE keyboard...that's pretty sweet since a small keyboard was one of the drawbacks of a gaming laptop. :)

I just happen to have both. a 15.4 is 6.2lbs and 17 inch is 7.8 lbs. Not too much diference but i love the 17 inch. So big and easy to see. Also i know with mine (hp dv9005us) it has room for a 2 internel hardd drive good for gaming if you have a lot of games on there. also... yes it does have a full keyboard :P

do you just have laptops or are the specifically alienwares?

i have a 17" dell, and although i love the preformance and stuff, i really REALLY wish i would have gone with a smaller laptop. its not the weight, its just the size of it is a little too much. i know if i had a smaller laptop i'd be EXTREMELY happy, but no, i'm just glad i got this one while i am still in HS and have yet to get my college lappy. that one will be that year's version of the dell xps 1210.

For a laptop, I prefer 15.4", that way it's still portable, but isnt as small as say, a 14 or 13".

I have like less than 15... My laptop is a mini laptop, it was really hard to build

and...?

I would go for the 15in for portability, or the 17 for non-portability. Since you wont really need the portability, it looks like the 17 would be the better choice.

I'd like a 17" laptop but because I have to take my laptop to school I have an HP with a 15.4" screen, not as portable as say a 14" but then I do like a larger screen. My dad has a 13" VAIO and it's quite nice, very audible if stressed though.
