My boss wants me to back up their server's 150gb HD every night. I know they used to use a tape drive but that was a while ago. He wants it done every night so he can take the night before's back up home. what kind of media can i use to back up 150GB without having to be there to swap in a new DVD?? was looking to use nortons ghost. So it needs to be a bootable back up too.

any suggestions??

thanks

well theis days, there are more complicated. you can make one big backup to like a hard drive and if a file changes it only writes that new file to the backup. saves space and esert to use. i would get a externel hd and back it up and send it home with him or put it in a fire box

You could use a NAS box that has hot-swapping capabilities so you could run the backup job every night and when it's finished power down the box and take the disk out to take home. Notron Ghost would be a good tool but look at either Clonezilla or Partimage. They are both free under the GPL.

well what i wanted to do was have a automated system for every night...say at 6pm (when everyone is gone) it would back up automatically and then at 9 am the next morning just swap hd 1 out for hd2...then repeat. I dont really want to be there when its backing up. Because if it is a bootable copy the server would have to go down..which means no one can work. So it has to start after 5.
