160GB Maxtor DiamondMax won't mount

I received my DiamondMax ATA133 HDD this morning and went to put it in and Windows Vista recognizes it, but it isn't listed under 'Computer' as being a HDD, it isn't listed at all

I set the drive to cable select, and it's currently set to Master.. neither work.

Again, Vista see's it and installs a driver for it, but the drive doesn't show up in the list of storage devices..

you need to go into administrator tools under control panel click computer managment, storage, disk management and format your new hd

I thought so too, but it's already formatted NTFS.

is it a slave drive if so make sure the jumper is set to slave not cable select

My main drive is SATA, this is a master, at the moment, as it's the only thing connected in the IDE channel, and it's connected to adapter #1, the furthest from the board.

Jumper settings are all correct, it's formatted.. it's just not showing up in the list.. I guess I'll give GParted a go and see about re-formatting it, maybe there's a hefty lump of errors on the drive from the previous owner? idk..

Ah, see I'm used to getting them new

I got this one, 160GB, for $30 shipped.. so I couldn't pass it up

I have to re-download GParted, for some reason my old disc isn't working correctly.. hopefully soon it'll work.

Yeah, I do.. it gets really old after awhile.

All else aside, I'm having no luck booting up GParted or the Ubuntu LiveCD.. any other way to format this HDD? Possibly from within Vista? Storage Manager doesn't allow it for some reason..
