1GB mem for GTA4?

So I installed GTA and realized that u need 1GB video mem to max everything out. Anyone know why the graphic memory req is so high? I thought that the CPU wud be the most important part when playing GTA4 with all the ragdolls flying around. Any ideas?

you dont need 1gb of vram to max it

i think rockstar set it to medium for 512mb cards because they thought it would cause view distance problems with the settings been fully unlocked on 512 cards but its fine here.

i maxed it on 512mb with this tweak plays great.

i think you may be cutting it a bit short with only 2gb of system memory though,thats if your running Vista.

I have 4gb . Tried the tweak but I cant get GTA4 to open w/o the social club b/c I have no account and run offline. Maybe I should not be such a cheap skate and buy a game every once in a while ><. I feel bad for the future PC market.

What about shared system memory? I have 4GB of system memory, 512MB card. Whenever I look at the card properties it says I have 512MB of video memory, 2.5GB available.
