My son & I are going to do our first build but need advice. I don't want to spend over $1,000 so please let me know if my choices are good. We want a decent gaming and video editing system that's upgradeable.

Power supply isn't the greatest. Poor quality and low wattage for a 560 Ti. Something like this would be better http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028

If you can spend more on the motherboard. This would be a good board for the 3770K http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128544&Tpk=ga-z77x-ud3h

You may not even need a 3770K to be honest. What kind of video editing are you doing (light, heavy?) and what programs are you running/ An overclocked i5 3570K may be more than enough http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116504 I do light editing using Sony Vegas on my overclocked i5 2500K and it holds up fine, so you may not even need the i7. For gaming, there's virtually no difference between the 3570K and the 3770K other than a massive price difference.

Thanks for the help. Wasn't sure about the power supply & I can easily budget for a better one and the motherboard listed as well. I WAS Going for an i7 for hyper threading. My son uses heavy grahics programs like Maya and Photoshop Pro and will be doing video editing for animation. Will the i5 still work well for these?

The i5 will work with Photoshop and a bit of light editing, but for stuff like Maya you'd probably definitely benefit from the i7. I'd stick with the 3770K if he's going to be using stuff like that.

If you can I'd also get some sort of aftermarket cooling such as the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ and then overclock that 3770K. As it's an unlocked processor, overclocking it should be easy and you'd get quite a lot of performance gain from doing so.

Thanks for the replies. I think I have a decision. Here's how I see it:

All looks good to me! :) Looks like a good system you have planned there! That PSU is much better than your original choice by the way. :good:
