1st Install of XP Pro on Custom Build

Hello, I just finished building my first computer. When I go to install XP Pro, the installation starts up fine until I have to select which hard drive i want to install it on. It then tells me that no hard drive was found and setup has to stop. However, when my computer starts up it detects my HD and it also detects it in the BIOS settings.

Does anyone know why Windows wouldn't be able to detect my HD and how I can go about fixing this? Thanks for your help.

Check the jumper settings on the HD's. Then also make sure that your cd drive is your master drive, and your HD is your slave drive.

Is it a SATA drive? If so - that may take some wrangling in the BIOS to get to work properly.

Sometimes that doesn't matter on some systems and some hd's. Check your cables to make sure they are in the right place. Also sometimes resetting the bios jumper can fix that problem, but if the problem persists I would contact Microsoft sometimes it can be a problem witht he software. That's about all I know to do. I've never really had that problem with the computers I've built.

i had a similar problem before, and it was because of a defective motherboard. Try resetting the CMOS by using the jumper, and right after that try going into the setup again, dont mess around in the BIOS, thats what i did every time i had to restart my comp.

Pardon my ignorance, but how would i go about doing this? Thanks.

actually check your mother board manufacturer and get third party scsi or raid drivers, then before it starts loading it tells you to press f6 to load them from a floppy. This will usually make windows detect your HD.

I got the drivers on a floppy and pressed f6 to install them. when i went to install and pressed enter i got an error that read "File \WINXP\iteraid.sys caused an unexpected error (18) at line 2113 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c. Press any key to continue"

That basically brings me to back to square 1. It seems like this should have worked.. any ideas?
