1st time build project for me and my kids.

So after many years of putting it off, I'm finally going to build my own gaming rig. I've decided on some parts and am buying them every fortnight. I've given us until Christmas to complete the build. Now, it in no way has to be a high end rig but I would like some future proofing (if possible) and whilst I may not dabble in overclocking, I'd like to have the option there for the kids. (14 & 8 btw). My main query here is one of compatibility, will the following parts work with one another.
CPU. Intel i5-4690-k
MOBO. Asus mod 1150 z97-k atx
GPU. Msi Nvidia gtx 960
Coolermaster hyper 212 evo
HDD. Seagate barracuda 3.5 inch 2tb
SSD. 250gb Samsung 2.5 inch
PSU. Corsair cp-9020099- uk builder series cx850 m. atx
As I'm stretching the build over 6 months I do have a little flexibility budget wise, but the wife insists I be sensible, so no £500 graphics cards for us. boo!
So anyway, any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

What parts do you have now? It's generally a better idea to just save until you can buy all the parts at once, by the time you complete your build the new skylake platform would have already come out.

I haven't got any parts yet as I'm still sort of researching, I heard elsewhere about getting everything at once so maybe I will take your advice. But as it stands, would this build work with everything mentioned above?

Looks pretty good to me :P

An 850w PSU is a bit of overkill if you don't plan on going sli with multiple video cards. Not a big deal from a wattage perspective but you might be able to save a few quid depending on your goals of the PC

What computer case did you have in mind?

Haven't decided yet, I quite like simple and plain, but the kids will probably want to go with some great hulking monstrosity that breathes fire and has guns on it lol. So a compromise will have to be made there. Personally, I like the custom builds where the computer itself is built into a desk but I wouldn't really know how I'd go about sourcing one and I'm certainly not adept enough to try myself (yet!). I'm thinking of getting a big case for airflow and to give myself room for manoeuvre. So any suggestions would be great.
Edit. Did you see that custom Battlestar Galactica case, yeah, I want that. lol.

They're 14 and 8. I may let the eldest be a bit more hands on but the youngest just wants to be involved. I just want to get them used to this computer lark so they're confident to it for themselves in the future
