Are there requirements on desktop power supply if I want to change it?

I have ATI HD 5700 right now and it works great but I want to upgrade it to 6950, what power supply should I buy? Something that will also be able to sustain 6990. And preferably something on best buy.

I am able to put video card on my computer, should I put the power supply myself too or should I pay for professionals to put it?

A power supply is easy enough to install. Unplug all the power cables, pull them out of the way of hardware, unscrew the PSU and pull the whole thing out.

What's your budget for a PSU?

6990 is a card that runs fairly hot, and consumes a good deal of energy. As far as watts go, i'd suggest 1000 at minimum. Remember to pick things like a good brand, active pfc, single 12v rail, and a 80+ silver or gold power rating. Some good brands are Corsair, Coolermaster, Antec, Silverstone, and Seasonic.

Plus you never said what power supply you already have. I dont understand if your wanting a 6950, what a 6990 has to do with anything?

I think he wants a PSU for an HD6950 but it should be powerful enough to be able to run an HD6990.May be he might be planning on upgrading.
A 750W PSU would be fine. You will be able to CF also in that Wattage and it will also be able to run Any GPU out there.

Since you want a PSU good enough for an HD 6990 also, then I would strongly recommend getting something really good like Seasonic or Silverstone or Corsair AX series.

If investing a 100 bucks on a PSU then it would be better if it is not cooler master.

Try this - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207015
It would come up to $95 and is a way better unit than the cooler master.
But if you are looking for just 1 HD6950 then 750W is a lot.
You can use a 550W PSU which will be more than enough.
Like this for 50 bucks http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013

No need to go for a 750W PSU.
BestBuy has a really small selection on PSUs and out of them only Antec and Corsair are brands decent enough on which I would trust a good GPU.

Woah there, 1kw would be good for two 6990's

Yep.

I wouldn't trust the CoolerMatser ones unless it's a Silent Pro series
