1st time trying to oc, windows wont boot

I just got elder scrolls 4 oblivion on my desktop and i thought ive read enough about overclocking to try it out and get some better frame rates on the game so i went to bios (ive got a lanparty nf4 ultra-d mobo) and i went to bios genie and i didnt really know what to look for so i tried to increase the voltages listed on that page. when i did that i tried to reboot but the first 3 times windows wouldnt boot all the way so after that i was like i better just restore the defaults so i did but now the boot process doesnt even reach the windows stage.
i feel like a doofus for doing this to my comp if anyone can help me here it would help so much. if i cant fix it myself im going to take it to microcenter and have them fix it for $70. i might just ask them to professionally oc it as well.

Never increase the voltages. You may have just killed your rig. to overclock in BIOS you have to have a BIOS that allows that. Not all of them can, or let you. Normally there should never be a need to increase voltages like that. Overclocking is when you speed up the CPU, not give it more juice.

edit: If you want to get your computer back up and running the you have to open up the case and switch certain jumpers to a different position and the turn on the computer for a few seconds. This will reset the BIOS configuration back to normal and hopefully will let you use it. Turn off the computer after the few seconds and then replace the jumpers in the original position again and then it should boot up if nothing major was damaged.

o ok thanks. i know my motherboard allows overclocking i guess i just dont know how to find the right thing to adjust.
i need to research what the jumpers are though lol. once i know what they are ill try rearanging them.

OH, and a nice FREE software I used to use was CPUCool. Great stuff. You can overclock your hard drive, your CPU all that good stuff. OH, and if you have a motherboard Manual for your look in there. It will have all the steps and pictures on how to do it.
 
wow thanks ill definitely use cpucool when i can, i was looking for an easy way to oc. now i know what a jumper is does it matter which ones i alter to reset bios the way your talking about? like what i want to do right now is slide the jumpers from my 2 hard drives over a slot on each hard drive. will this work?

Well, its not on the hard drive, its on the motherboard. ;) If you look closely near the bottom usually there will be a jumper. There usually will be the words "Normal" And "reset" what you do is move the jumper to "reset" and do the other instructions from there.

You do not know what you are talking about. Overclocking your hard drive? Leads to file corruption, etc.

c4sTr0, the best thing you can do is to find a set of three "wires" coming out of your motherboard, with a jumper on two of them:

Pull the jumper off, and put it on the center one and the opposite side wire (ie. iif it was left-center, put it on center-right).
 
Yeah, I killed my HDD doing the overclocking the HDD thing. how it works I believe is the increases the reed rate and the S.M.A.R.T. update rate. Normal is 10, I set it to 1000 and killed it. lol. Its not technically overclocking but something like it so the only word I can come up with is overclocking....poor poor IDE drive......
 
thanks alot for the pictures. i found a bunch of jumpers on the motherboard but none had writing underneath saying reset. I did find 2 buttons near the bottom right corner of the mobo one reading power the other reset. i pushed the reset but windows still didnt boot.
the last thing it reads is "verifying dmi pool data" and it usually puts "...ok!"

i did find a red jumper (all the others are blue) that reads "CCMOS" under

do you have your Motherboard instruction manual? If you do it will show where it is on your specific motherboard.
 
just unplug your computer, remove the battery, and push the power button. then wait a few minutes, put the battery back in, plug it in and turn it on. your bios will be reset without messing with the jumpers. alot easier than looking for jumpers.

obviously you dont know enough about overclocking since you did what you did


you have to raise the FSB and Multiplier to OC

Why not increase the voltages? You'll have to if you want a large OC. But in his case yes he shouldn't increase the voltages until his computer won't OC any further on stock voltage.

it should look like the way we explained oh and make sure your tower is plugged up while you reset the bios it my cut on for a short while my old pc did that when i resetted it i dont know if it will stay on tho its been along time since i did that but if it turns on and cuts off thats aight but if it stays on just let it do what its gonna do and take the jumper move it to the other pin then move the jumper back to the pin it belongs to and that should do the trick if that dont work i dont know what else will i wish you the best of luck with it be very careful and the jumper should look just like the picture we showed you
 
Then you most likely kill your motherboard. all in favor of the result type yay, all who are against my conclusion type nay.

let me rephrase that to change the FSB and multiplier


I know about the locked Multipliers but it doesnt mean you cant change them
