Bah

I like my 30GB ipod enough. It holds every CD that has been good enough for me to actually buy and then some. If I do buy another one when this one breaks its will probably be an iphone or an iphone wannabe.

I've heard bad things about iPods... the look nice, but are very delicate and problematic.

Hearing things is different from owning one.

Anyway here's a little tidbit of info. A few days ago i dropped my 30GB HARD DRIVE(!) iPod (which is in a thin rubber case) from chest height. It was a free-fall drop onto tile floor, and the thing worked fine afterwards.

Before that I've dropped it many times sometimes from that height or less, and it doesn't seem to show any problems.

You guys are all saying things like "it'll be really expensive" and "a hi-def screen will be hard to do", but you're forgetting a key thing. We're talking about the future. Sure, it might be hard to do now, but seven years in the future? a 30gb iPod now costs about $250. If and when a 1TB ipod is introduced, it probably won't cost much more, because the technology will be more common. Think about ten years ago, when harddrives were only a few megabytes. If someone had said to you that in ten years, we'd have 80gb devices the size of a pack of playing cards with a 2.5" color screen that plays music and videos, you would have a) not believed them or b) said that'll cost more than my house.

my 10 yr old Laptop has a 3 GIGABYTE hdd. 15 years ago, sure.

Wow, 1TB iPod? That would be insane, I don't think you really need all that space. 80GB is enough already. That's probably the max space I would ever need. What they really need to do is extend the battery life, there's already plenty of space for iPods now. 20 hours of video play would be great. They should be working on that, not more space.

actually, my parents freak when the storage used on our 80gb HDD is above 40gb. they blame our slow PC on me for all of my games. pfft.

Ha! My parents do the same! They think just because my computer isn't working right, means it's my fault and there's too much crap on the computer.

yup.....thats the reason i built mine. plus i wanted to game after my parents told me to go to sleep. right now im restricted to 2 games.........also i found that the HDD was clogged with Nero burn logs, 10 of witch were 800-1200 megabytes. so now, most of the blames is shared with my sister...

That is a very ignorant statement. (No offense or anything.)
What do you think people said in the past about 8 megabytes of RAM(!!!), or 20GB of hard drive space(!!!).
You would never need that much RAM or HD space, it's all you would ever NEED right?

;)

Unless they make up a new sound format that takes more than 100 MB for a song for stupid extra ultra mega quality.... I don't think there is a need for that 1TB thing. And I don't think this is gonna happen.

No... there is no need for a new sound format. In 2014 all the ipods will probably be iPod videos and be able to play HD-DVD and Blu-Ray quality movies... thats how you could use 1TB easily.

Also, I think it's quite possible we'll exceed this. It sounds like Seagate is predicting on a linear basis, but technology increases exponentially, we'll be looking back on this in 2014 and laughing our heads off at how stupid we were while we are listening to music on our 30PB iPods.

What does ignorant mean? Sorry, I just had to do that :D :P

Yes, I realize, looking back on it now. It was quite ignorant of me to say that. Should've thought about it before I posted :)
