Doesnt, matter, when you OC a processor by the HTT, it forces the RAM to run at higher speeds. Of course, if he doesnt want to OC then there's no point of buying it.

That's kind of what i was thinking ;)

That looks really nice but since your running such high end hardware usualy case PSU dont cut it, so get another one seperatly, with at least 30A on the 12V rail(s). It will especialy come in handy if you run two GPU's and hard drives later on.

Also, a second SATA II HDD for RAID 0 when he upgrades.
Thats a waste of a HDD if he's using it for gaming...

AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 - Zalman 120mm cooling
ASUS 7800GTX
Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro SLI
X-Navigator - 500W PSU - 34A-12v
1Gb OCZ DDR500 Cas: 2
250Gb SATA II - Windows Home SP2
Dual Sony DVD-RW Burner
Need details on the parts ... the above is too generic: what are the revisions? core names? Full model numbers etc

Would anyone suggest Dual core over FX?
Me.

no, go fx for a gamer...definitely.
As if anyone would notice a difference in a singlethreaded game (cuz they sure as hell would notice in a multithreaded game)

Nice! Is he getting Asus's TOP version of the 7800?
Not that it's that great ... the EVGA KO is vastly superior (not to mention a kickass warranty and a half)

get the 3000+ and overclock it to 2.6
Or get a FX55 and overclock it to 3.4... or ... or ... or...

You should consider getting 2 74GB raptor drives running in RAID 0. Get another HDD later.
For what purpose (other than to simply have two drives in RAID0)?

Could you explain in english?
Unless you're gonna be messing around with the multipliers theres no point really in getting them...

EDIT, mobo = MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI
Good board, the DFI LanParty UT NF4SLI-DR is better though ... its a bit of a maintainance board and u do need to get knee deep into it but if you do, it's vastly superior

You should be able to get alot more than that for $2300. The rig in my sig cost my around $2185.
Eeeek!

well.. he can spend the monney of somebody else..
That would still be stupid ... yer better off keeping it

anyway. get a 3000+ and OC it to 2.7GHz. then it has the same ferformance of that $820 processor.
Now if you're buying (or suggesting) a performance FX based system running at stock clocks ...... i wont say any more.

Realistically, what do you think of 4600+ or 4800+, get a second gig of RAM now, and get 2nd 7800GTX when he can spend that $700 later.
Why not get all of it? Hell can do pretty much the same thing on 2500CAD without all that much work....

How about 4400+, cuz I want the 2Mb L2 Cache (2.2 Ghz can always be overclocked, Cache can't). 2 Gigs OCZ DDR500, and BFG Tech 7800GTX. Is BFG tech 7800 better than ASUS? reaons?
1. It's 1MB L2 cache
2. Do your reasearch: that cache is gonna mean roughly crap all for gaming
3. Let's also be specific ... what's the model number on the memory?
4. If you mean their 7800GTX OC then sure its arguably better .. depends on prices

Correct me if im wrong but isn't the DDR standard on The MSI Neo4 Platinum SLI mobo DDR400?
Consider yourself corrected :D K8 motherboards of this class dont have onboard memory controllers.

dual cores good for future proofing but fx's are top dog
As you know, FXs are only top dog for single tasking environments

with at least 30A on the 12V rail(s). It will especialy come in handy if you run two GPU's and hard drives later on.
Thats funny... cuz ther 7800class cards use less power than the 6800class ones..

I mean, the FX is a waste of money, just like the EE.
So if I've got a 3000USD budget for a heavy server with at least 2TB HDD and 4GB of RAM, you'd suggest I get the Pentium D?

For his uses it's a waste of money.

Did you bother to look at the specs of the PSU? it has 34A on the 12v rail :)

oh also. If you need the setup i posted to fit the $2300 budget, get 1 7800gtx now and lose the monitor if you already have one. I forgot that the thread said no monitor :D then later get a 2nd card and maybe an audigy 2 and some nice speakers? :)
