Well, for one, the 2.4Ghz band is also used by wireless phones (the kind you would have in your kitchen or living room), so if the phone rings, you could say good bye to your network connection temporarily. The 5ghz band is not used by anything else (that i know of), and is faster, and I believe can carry more data.
