2 7800 GT or 1 7800 GTX

I was going to upgrade video card soon, and 2 7800 GT's cost 200$ canadian more than 1 7800 GTX. However, buying the 2 comes in a bundle with a
600w power supply (tigerdirect). So in essense its about 50$ or 100$ more depending on the price of a new psu. So which is the better option?

well do you need a PSU? do you have a sli moatherboard? if you dont have the sli moatherboard then its better to get 1 7800gtx...but if you do and need a better PSU then the 2 7800gt's is better.

yes i have an sli mobo, and my PSU is fine for now, but chances are i will need one if i go either of those routes as far as a new video card goes.

thats a tough descision. the 2 7800gt are better for now but the one gtx will be better for future upgrades becuase u can just add another one.

Thats what i was thinking... but by the time 2 7800 GTs arent performing on current games, chances are that 2 7800 GTXs wont be enough either?

i would be tempted to go for the two cards with the psu bundle and you never know when your PSU will give up and if you have the right case you can have two psu's in your system.

Ohh and since when did they do a 512mb version of the 7800 GTX

they've been doing those for some months now, i also read that they are being phased out at around the end of february

a single GTX would be better since it can easily outperform a GT and not many games fully support 2 GT anyway. And GTX will be anough for some time to run everything at max (that is if the rest of you comp is not complete crap which i doubt is because crap cant run a GTX)

PS.: a word of warning, you need a really gooooooood PCU for 2 GTX(512mb version) and even for one GTX. I went throught (destroyed/burned) 2 PCU until i bought a really good one and that works just fine.

the gtx isnt that much better than a gt. it's life will last about a month or 2 longer than the gt's when it comes to future games

Surely, 2 gtx's (1 Gig) will greatly outperform 2 gt's (512 Meg), and therefore stick around for a lot longer than simply a month or 2

i am no professional but i don't think that sli actually sums up the specs, I don't think that 2 GTX means 1gig.

Sorry to sort of change topic. BUT OMFG YOUR COMPUTER IS SOOOOO AMAZING. How the hell did you pay for it?????? I mean 8 gig of ram you wont need that much for years. And will you ever use a terabite of memory. You setup must have atleast cost. £3000 or like $4500 dollers or something. You must be rich.

correct.

those cards are definately faster, but they arent so much so that they will last so much longer than 2 gt's. great if you have $900+ for 2 of those gtx's, but it will not be that much ahead of 2 gt's
similar to the 6800 series
2 6800gt ultras vs 2 6800gt = not a huge difference
2 6800gt vs 2 6800gs = same as above

and if you're talkin about the 512's, well it's not that much greater than gtx's. but, it DOES have more memory.... $1600+ for 2 cards

That is the most ignorant post I have ever seen. Well at least close to it.

Haha since your saying that 2 7800 GTX's equals a whole gig of dedicated memory, then I'm assuming your getting the 512mb version. There really isn't a difference between the 256 and the 512. Developers won't be using 512 mb's for some time. Also getting 2 512mb 7800GTX's will be hard because they are sold out everywhere I go... where do you plan on getting them? Also where are you getting all this money?? I wanna' know!! ;)

2 x 512mb cards do not make 1 Gb of memory, the data in one card is the same as the other cos the cards dont transfer the contents of their memory between the each other.
so two 512mb cards is the same as having one 512 card with regards to the memory available
