Is there a way to setup my computer to recognize 2 separate hard drives as one amount of space (1 hard drive)?

I have a 500gb sata harddrive partitioned in half. One half is the OS, the other is storage. my storage is running out quickly, so I'd like to through in a spare 320gb pata for more room.

Can it be done?

Not in that aspect it won't. You would need two drives of the same type (IDE or SATA and your motherboard would have to support RAID. You can't have a partition from one drive and then a total new drive configured for raid. You have to have 2 whole physical drives.

You can use a new hard drive as a folder on your existing drive. Create a new folder on the existing volume, then use Disk Management to mount a new volume into that folder (use right click on the volume, "Change drive letter and path"). Be advised though that such a configuration has some funny implications as far as free space is concerned.
